Linklight plays Pokemon Scarlet & Violet on his PC to showcase just how awesome emulation is! I use the Ryujinx Switch emulator to pull off the 60fps mod along with the internal upscaling, however I have heard that Yuzu is almost just as good.

My PC specs:
CPU - Intel i7-8700k
GPU - NVIDIA 3090

  • Emulations and mods can only do so much, but the game's engine and lack of optimization holds it back.
  • This makes me feel like im doing an eye exam and they are changing through the different lenses
  • @vedrisca
I have a horrifying realization. If the leaves, tree bark, and rock textures have that much fidelity after a 2x upscale, that means that THOSE SAME ASSETS ARE BEING RENDERED AT MAXIMUM FIDELITY LOD EVEN WHEN THE RESOLUTION CANNOT DEPICT THEM PROPERLY. There should've been more LODs to fit appropriate distances, but considering that the pop in detail happens only once, that means that there are either 2 or 3 LODs that are put to their highest quality variants from a VERY far distance, which puts unnecessary strain on the processing units for a display that cannot depict the textures and models accurately anyway. This game is an optimization NIGHTMARE.
  • Crazy how good this game actually looks with upscaling and a smooth framerate
  • @ODISeth
Emulation (not piracy) has a boatload of benefits compared to playing on original consoles and I think at some point folks are gonna have to realize that. There’s a stigma against emulation and I really, really wish there wasn’t. People deserve to know what’s possible EDIT: Most of y’all don’t know the difference between emulation and piracy and I think your ignorance is a big part of why this is such an issue
  • @MattO109
This with the voice acting mod would make a massive difference…
  • I feel like this is a really interesting exploration of what the game is actually like without the switch's limitations. It makes me wonder what kind of amazing Pokémon game we could get if it was built for PC from the start. 10/10 video my dude.
  • "Yeah I use GIMP... I'm poor" This genuinely made me smile, it's the exact thing I tell others
  • Man, emulation is so damn nice. Makes me wish I had a beefy PC to play all these games in a completely new light. It's always especially amazing to see old gamecube or Wii games emulated.
  • Love the vid! And even if its jarring at times I love the sped up animations looking so clean and speedy compared to the normal speed feeling really slow to me.
  • @rizrizriz
Never realized the top half of the tera orb is translucent until I saw the emulation footage. Crazy.
  • internal resolution bumps won't upgrade texture resolution(ie the door has a baked in low res texture). Wait till texture mod packs are made. Think like minecraft. You can change the resolution to 4k, but the game won't look too different until you get a 4k high res texture pack that compliments the internal resolution. Proper lods will help a lot with this game too, as some models are baked with decimated geometry it seems.
  • @ImStian
I don't really care too much about increased graphical fidelity or 60fps. All I want is for the game to run at a consistent framerate.
  • @lay10vids
That LOD mod is a real game-changer. If only the textures didn’t repeat themselves so evidently, then the game might actually look half decent.
  • @Nelsituh
that transition from osrs to rs3 as you explain tech improvements :)
  • I wanted to comment about your PC's performance in particular. Your specs are actually pretty good! The problem is the CPU. Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, same as with most Switch/Nintendo titles are CPU bound. So your 8th gen Intel has just a few cores working as hard as they can, while your 3090 is kicking back with an iced tea blissfully unaware anything is even going on. Great vid btw, internal resolution scaling really is pretty impressive. edit: Lol just saw the part where you explained this!
