i used to own the same kind of boombox, I freaking loved it, was so loud, louder than everyone else's. Was my first car stereo too, as the d batteries added up to 12 volts, so just ran two wires from the ciggie lighter socket.

I have one of these, it was given to me by my uncle. It still works but was rough when I got it. I couldn't get the switches or the line input to work so I tied into the audio coming from the tuner with a switch to change between radio and Aux. I touched up a ton of solder points on the board and that solved the cutting out issue it had. I plan to get the tape player working again and then i'm going to record a tape of old skool hip hop songs and play it on it.

one early childhood memory was when i was 5 (would've been '89) was seeing someone bring one of these to the neighborhood pool. i was mesmerized by the moire interference pattern of the sun shining through the grille and then reflecting off the cone back through and seeing the woofer vibrate, kinda like you captured here in this video. i think that's what got me interested in speakers and audio from that point onward.

The D8443 is one of my all-time favorite boomboxes...

That big Magnavox i saw in this video is one of my favorites, i hope to score one of them someday, pretty much every boombox you have shown on your videos is what i like to see, your videos are awesome btw, keep up the good work.
  • @hendrixphish420
thanks for the track info. DeBarge's "I like it" was playing at the start. Grand Puba sampled it in one of his tracks by the same name.
  • @gbclr
Awesome boombox. You could have showed off the shortwave band a little bit. Anyway a great video. I am a fan of big boomboxes and i will be watching more of your videos soon.

  • @huikify
i found one of these in my neighbors trash.. its in perfect condition exept for the cassette recorder.. do you guys think i could get it fix at radio shak or something ??
  • @DecentMan4you
part 2 of 4) Well I just spent 30 minutes or so trying to find the specifications for the ( Ipod ) - I couldnt find this information. You get what you give is all that I know. I have heard somewhere that the output of the 'Ipod' is around 5 milliwatt of power max.
  • Just bought this boombox on ebay yesterday. for $100....Well worth it. I have a friend that I met at college that collects them and fixes them up. The cassette player needs new belts and I'm hoping he can fix it, although I'll be using an ipod primarily when I carry it. Already have a GE 3-6035A that I got for $20, fantastic boombox also. Going for a more ghettoblaster look with this one though.
  • @sparkdetect
Yes thanks for the look inside the D8443...I'd always wondered what it looked like...it's less intimidating than I thought. I don't think the video was too long, the D8443 deserves ten minutes IMHO...

Hi, this model was marketed under the Phillips brand in the uk, I remember that cos I had one in 83/84, wish I had kept it.
  • @C2xEditor
I want a boombox that has REALLY good bass sound and control. would you recommend this or would you think a different one is better?
  • @Daehawk
Takes me back to my teen years.

Ok replaced the ( commonly ) broken cog. Replaced drive belt player works great !!! Is there a speed adjustment on this unit 8443 seems to be dragging just a bit.
