Great movie, just wish they had taken the time to include that incredible whistling sound the Corsairs could make. At an airshow back in 1970 an F4U-1D in original WWII faded paint made a high speed pass down the runway and he had the prop rpm rolled back where you could almost count the revolutions. There was No sound at all as he passed, then you heard this jet whistling sound. No propeller or engine noise either, it was incredible and I was in love. LOL

From wikipedia, There were dogfights between F4Us and Soviet-built Yakovlev Yak-9 fighters early in the war, but when the enemy introduced the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15, the Corsair was outmatched. On 10 September 1952, a MiG-15 made the mistake of getting into a turning contest with a Corsair piloted by Marine Captain Jesse G. Folmar, with Folmar shooting the MiG down with his four 20 mm cannon. In turn, four MiG-15s shot down Folmar minutes later; Folmar bailed out and was quickly rescued with little injury.

It's fortunate for those two pilots that the pilot of the Mig didn't really know what he was doing. The Corsair was no match for the Mig 15, even as fast as they were.

As much as I love this movie and would willingly watch it ten times a day if I could, this is the only scene I have gripes with, as only one Corsair pilot in the entirety of the Korean war ever shot down a Mig. And it wasn't Thomas Hudner, it was Jesse Folmar.

6:51 chinese doesn't have dskh at the beginning of korean war, and the hats and uniforms they wear are more russian than chinese.

The truth is that for me it is very surreal, I don't think they would have allowed a pilot with such poor aim to fly a jet to the battlefield, just look at how despite being on the tail of his rival he misses all the shots... The truth is: That movie moment was very fake. 5:02 Edit: Literally me in WarThunder lol

Gotta love the stormtrooper flying the mig : 60 rounds shot, not ONE hit. And then come the hero : first 0.5 second burst and the mig is down.

My uncle, Bill Strong, was captured by the Chinese and North Koreans during the Battle of Unsan, November 1950. He was one of many captured that day. God bless those who served. They will not be forgotten.

That Mig has like A LOT of ammo.

A Corsair with that much ordnance and two drop tanks would be about 250 knots on the deck. The Mig-15 would overshoot him and would have to make multiple passes. The Corsair did have a much much higher roll-rate and tighter turn than the Mig-15. So that part is accurate. Also, two 5 inch rockets only had 90lbs of explosives (combined). This would not take down a bridge....
