The little tribute to Pryor at the top was classy of Johnny. Richard would end up making his first television appearance since the accident on Johnny Carson that September.

At the end of the day, no matter what the Country might be going through, Johnny would put it in perspective, find some gentle humor in the situation and help you to sleep in a better mood.A Class Act all the way.

It has been a very long time since I've seen Steve as the Wild And Crazy Guy, literally!🤣

Every time I watch these Johnny Carson show clips, it makes me miss Johnny Carson all that much more. Every show was great.
  • The Jerk is one my favorites. I was a Jr in HS when the Jerk came out. That means Carl Reiner was younger there than I am now. That really makes me feel old!

The Jerk and Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid were two great collaborations of Carl and Steve, and key to getting Martin going in movies (nice Johnny mentioned Richard Pryor's accident).

Steve Martin's over-the-top caricature of celebrity success has become the way many of today's athletes and internet influencers live their everyday lives.

Being a ProductionAssistant on The Jerk was one of the highlights of my film career….

i was born in 2006, and i’ve been watching a few of johnny’s videos, and oh my goodness, times back then seemed so much better. Johnny seemed like the perfect guy for late night, he wasn’t an over the top loud mouth like these guys we have today, he was a calm respectful interviewer who threw a joke in here and there and was actually funny, Live on Johnny!❤️🙏🕊

When Johnny retired, it was the end of an era. Watched every night with family. Good stuff.

Carl Reiner lived for 40 more years after this interview. He died June 29, 2020 at the age of 98.

You knew what time it was, because Carson came on - and EVERYBODY watched - Even if you had already been asleep you would try to wake up and watch.
