This is actually a remake of a soviet cult classic 'irony of the fate', i recommend you to watch it. Plus, it seems like the only similar thing between the original and the remake is the reason why heroes met.

The fact that their two houses even the interior furnishings were so identical as for the guy to not tell them apart is the scariest part and perhaps an unintentional commentary on middle class homogeny.

so this is a remake of the irony of fate, a famous soviet film that family's usually watch during the new year. anyway, the plot is the same but maybe makes more sense because soviet apartments literally were built to look the same no matter where you were

I like how culture highlights the similarities between the people all over the world. Soviet "Irony of fate" from the 70s was a commentary on commie blocks and state-produced goods being typical, that Hollywood film uses the same plot to talk about mass-market and capitalist production also being typical. Different ways of life, same problems.

Thomas Mann is awesome, been a fan of him ever since I saw Project X.
