My poor teacher was on that flight. I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like to die like that
-
The pilot was so calm flying into death :( RIP
-
Still such a sad case that I think of often.

Most of the people assume they can question the decision to "delay" the landing for dumping fuel as in this video. What they forget tough, is that the plane was flying at a cruising altitude of 33'000 and out of only 56 NM from Halifax when they started their descent. This is way too short for a standard descent and the crew had to fly more than 56 NM in order to lose enough altidude to land at Halifax. To me losing altitude is not "delaying" the landing. The landing was going to be "delayed" anyway due to not enough track distance to lose enough altitude.

"Souls on board." RIP.

Why did the pilots think it was so important to dump the fuel? I know it would damage the airframe, but if you have smoke in the cockpit, you’d be more worried about getting the plane down on the ground than damaging the airframe.

Pilot did a good job and brave to fight the fire
-
Sad for me
-
Discusting way to die :(
-
SUCH A HORRIBLE TRAGEDY

Don’t blame the pilots for going over the ocean to dumb fuel first. All though it lost many lives, it saved even more. Jet fuel is very flammable, and they already had a fire. That thing would have blown the hell out of any airport if it had tried to land. It would have killed many more on the ground.

So sad.
-
My grandparents died on this flight
-
Why you have a story on flight 111 but subtitles of MH370? Two different crashes
-
Big mistake to dump fuel. Should have landed immediately at Halifax overweight
-
RIP Bander.
-
I believe its Atlantic ocean not Indian ocean?
-
Fuck the fuel, just land it now when you smell something burn.
-
Pilot training needs to include common sense.

Dumping fuel prove to be last nail in coffin of swiss air 111
