Fifty-two years ago, my new wife and I loaded our 1963 Dodge Dart with borrowed camping gear and went on our honeymoon in the UP. This video brought back so many memories that you literally made me cry. I lost her five years ago and, when I go, our ashes will be scattered together from Grand Portal Port in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Thank you and remember to live every moment as though it might be your last. Words of wisdom from a 75 year old traveler.
  • The UP is wild & free. It is big!! The UP can encompass 4 ( of the smaller) New England states. Weather is unpredictable. The UP lies NORTH!! BRING warm clothes( even in Summer). Do not expect cell phone service. There may not be coffee shops, gas stations or other "take for granted" amenities. It is remote. Do expect friendly people, gorgeous scenery, wonderful parks, first rate hiking, very good fishing & tons of history.

As a native Michigander and a property owner in the UP i think the Michigan Tourism counsel should pay you HUGE dollars and feature this video on their Pure Michigan campaign. What a great job you two did on this video !! Your always welcome to have a private, free, level gravel spot to park on at my 10 acre piece of UP heaven, no electric but fresh clean cold water very close by.
  • I cover 14 states throughout the Midwest for my job, and in no other state do I see more out of state license plates than here in Michigan -- it's not even close. In many parts of west MI in the summer, it's normal for 20% or more of the vehicles on the roads to be from out of state. After traveling around in other states, it's obvious why people want to come here to vacation. The variety of scenery and natural resources is unmatched, and the number and quality of waterways (ponds, streams, rivers, inland lakes and great lakes) is mind boggling. Many of my Indiana and Ohio customers vacation in MI annually, but I don't know a single MI customer that leaves MI to vacation in any other midwest state. Keep up the great work with sharing your travel experiences -- really enjoyable!!

It's a sin to get a vegetarian pasty. You weren't blown away because you need to get the beef version and drown it in gravy.

My mother was born and raised in South Marquette on Division Street. I was born and raised in New Mexico. I fell in love with the UP in 1971 when Mom went to her 20th high school reunion. I swam in the same rock quarry she did, met tons of family and loved Lake Superior. In 1973 after I graduated from high school my Mom, Dad, and brothers moved to Marquette, sans me as I attended college in NM. Christmas and Summer breaks were WONDERFUL. Today my 43 year old son and I are going to make my Great Aunt's famous Pasties ( a long-standing family tradition) just as she made them for me in 1971. Thanks for taking me back to Marquette and the UP.

Just FYI - Marquette is home to Northern Michigan University and is not affiliated with the University of Michigan. Secondly, Michigan Tech University is the name of the school in Houghton, Mi. (MIT is in Massachusetts). Otherwise, this video is very well done. The camera & drone work is crisp. The narrating is very informative. Love the historical facts, too. The UP has been 'second home' since the 70's and has provided decades of fun memories for generations. PS - It's Petoskey not Petowski😊
  • I'm from Kentucky, but I've hiked from Munising to the Big Mac Bridge with a hiking club I used to come up to hike with several summers. Pictured Rocks area was gorgeous. I've done that part twice.
  • I lived off the grid outside of Gay when we got the record 390 inch snowfall shown on the gauge. Wood heat kerosene lamps and a 2-seater outhouse. Best 5 years of my life.
  • @Seth4192
Michigan is so under rated for vacations it's where our family takes our yearly vacation
  • If you get back up there, try Jean Kay's Pasties in Marquette. I know you like the veggie ones but get one with the beef instead; the meat adds much more flavor to the meal. You should use Catsup on a pasty; gravy is nasty and I'm not even a Yooper!😂😂😂
  • @robertbucsh8840
You missed a lot in the Keewaunaw. For instance Brockway Mountain and the copper museum in Caumet.
  • The university in Marquette is Northern Michigan University. I'm a graduate :-) U of M is way in the lower peninsula in Ann Arbor
  • This is why it's called Pure Michigan. I like when you stop and show the beauty with no voice over. We get.to also stop and take it in
  • As a resident of the UP, I live in Negaunee which is 10 miles west of Marquette, I love reading and hearing all the beautiful things that people write and say about it. Plus I love to see how respectful people are of the beautiful places that they experience here. I consider myself lucky to be one of the three percenters which is the population of Yoopers who live here out of the TEN MILLION Michiganders,
  • @dkcoats
One nit-picky comment: Michiganders don’t refer to the UP as “northern Michigan”. That term is reserved for the “tip of the mitt”. Otherwise, great job!
  • @MrAlbarry51
You two did a great job telling the good and bad “mostly good” about camping in Michigan. I love the way you edited it all together in this episode. Thank you for showcasing our state. I dub you office Michiganders!
  • @maxx529
Michigan has so much to offer, I never knew you could spend weeks up in the UP with endless things to see. The longer recap was great, I liked having a continuous stream of one area, and you do your videos so well I love watching them!
  • @kathyharger1502
Thank you for enjoying my home town Munising! Born and raised. Never taken for granted. We are blessed to live here!💖
