WHAT A BEAUTIFUL VOICE!!

Very profound and poetic. I think the song is inspired by the controversial painting called “Thèrése Dreaming”: a painting that depicts a young girl sitting in a “sexually provoking” manner. It was petitioned online to be removed but the MET museum refused for the reason of fostering “respect for creative expression”. This was also connected with Maya’s “Blue Hippo” MV. While this was the story behind the Thèrése artwork, my personal interpretation of the lyrics is that how some people (or Maya perhaps) can view the painting (Thèrése), as somehow resonating with how they want to live their own lives; e.g., her “tactlessness” from the way she sits on the chair, her nostalgia and introspection of the past, and hopes for the future. In other words, this song speaks to me as a longing for a “worry-free” life; an untainted innocence like the young Thèrése — from Maya’s standpoint (I think), an alternative way of looking at the painting not from the perspective of the painter (which made it controversial in the first place), but of the story and POV of the person (in this case Thèrése), in which Maya has poetically woven and painted with a pinch of her own imagination, of what would be—hypothetically—Thèrése’s wandering thoughts.

Maya’s not only an artist, but also a poet. Her words speak volumes and it’s so rare to see an artist deliver such intricate details. Her music is unlike any other and that’s why I consider her my favorite. She always gives me comfort and I love everything about her! (Edit: Oh my- I just saw all these comments lmao I’m obviously aware that she’s an actress too guys because that’s how I discovered her.. from Stranger Things! I know I made no mention of that, but still… some of these comments were getting out of hand and I had to say something. I was only mentioning her musician side because I wanted to focus more on that because she’s extremely underrated in that department and in the music industry in general. Anyway, I hope she gets recognized more when her new album comes out because she’s truly one of the few authentic lyricists with such a unique style in the way she delivers her words. I love you, Maya! 💖)

I feel like the lyrics expresses a hypothetical situation where someone is thinking about the old memories and the old ways of processing something and it reminds me of what I'm trying to do right now, improving my way of processing. It's my interpretation, thanks a lot for this and it just sounds really good.
