One of the greatest pianists and one terrific human being, too. What a legacy he left all of us. Thank you for posting this remarkable video, a real gift to ones like myself who needed a refresher on Maestro Serkin's supreme artistry and presence.
  • There is not one single bar of music ever composed by Beethoven that could even remotely be described as "trivial". And this performance by Rudolf Serkin is a testament to that fact.

Mr Serkin in great form, and thoroughly engrossed in his work, Wonderful how we can see and hear such a performance in such detail. I have watched this over and over.

Unbelievable master of Beethoven and incredible that at 83 years of age the sound of the master is still wunderlich.
  • @jebaznet
OMG ! Serkin was here 84 years old...and play the three last Sonatas by Beethoven SUPREME
  • @mrsulaman9901
The 30th is such a beautiful piece that even the pianist is reduced to tears by the end.

I'm so grateful the whole concert has been uploaded uninterrupted...my favourite late Beethoven pianist...he doesn't bother with all the formalities but instead faces each sonata head on.

Great upload. Serkin is possibly the least known/most underrated of the great classical pianists. This live performance is sublime.

I heard him play the same program in Boston that year. One of the best concerts I've attended.

  • My God. The fidelity of this recording is superb. How do we thank Serkin?
  • @tarikeld11
I love his tempos! It's not rushed and you can actually listen to the music. The fugue of No. 31 is wonderful.

He is one of my favorite pianists in the Austro/German repertoire. I am very fortunate to have heard him perform Beethoven's E-flat Piano Concerto in Chicago in the mid-1980s.
  • @stutti42
Beethoven seems to be putting his hands on Serkin's shoulders! Impressed itself!
