10 Fashion Tricks Princess Diana Used to Make Old Clothes Look New Again

We may think of Kate Middleton as the queen of re-wearing items from her closet, but Princess Diana was recycling her clothing long before the Duchess of Cambridge ever did. Like Kate, Diana didn't grow up royal, so she was less accustomed to just buying new outfits on a whim. Sure, she did have an expansive closet once she became a princess, but she also brought back her favorite pieces throughout the years.

As InStyle noted, Diana had a unique way of re-wearing her clothing. She didn't necessarily just throw on the same old dress time and time again. Instead, she would often alter her outfits to wear them in new ways. Sometimes she would remove the extra fabric, tuck a blouse in, or add new accessories. This helped her style always feel fresh, even when she was just cycling through her same old closet.

You might not like the 80's clothing styles, but I sure miss it. I loved the padded shoulders that made one's waist look smaller. I'm not talking foot-ball style, but padded enough to look elegant. As a matter of fact, there are still some blouses that I still have with shoulder pads that I still wear today. I've never been one to follow the 'style' as it changes more often than our seasons so I wear what I like and feel comfortable in wearing.

Those outfits didn’t look so dated and they don’t hurt my eyes. Beautiful then and now.

I remember in the 80s that some were shocked by Dianna re-wearing .. it was so not done in that time.. I always loved it😊

The shiny purple embroidered ballgown wasn't outrageous then and wouldn't be now. It's still beautiful

I don't know why people always made a huge thing, that a celebrity is just re-wearing an outfit or recreate it. I mean a gown can cost over 1000£ and it's obvious that you are re-wearing the gown/ outfit, because it is expensiv, beautiful and substainable for the environment. But yeah, Diana had re- wore the dresses on a really beautiful way.

She was pure princess every step of the way. Beautiful inside and out. I am still saddened of the world losing her too soon.

Don't we all re-wear clothes we love ? FANTASTIC polka dot hat 👒 , not that I would have any occasion to wear it. The Brits wear hats with such flair and wit !
  • Bautiful Diana and beautiful daughter -in - law Catherine. Both astounding women whose elegance and style never disappoints.
  • I miss her so much. She is absolutely stunning. She could make anything beautiful with her charisma, empathy and charm. Just love her 😊 and miss her.
  • Only if we can rewind the tape of life and stopped her from getting on that car that night......Princess Diana will never be replaced. One in a billion.
  • Diana did not grow up royal but she was still an aristocrat. Kate Middleton is not an aristocrat, though, but both of them finally found their fashion sense later on. Look at how they looked while a lot younger. They both evolved into fashion icons.
  • Every thing Lady D wore was just fabulous...😭😭😭🇸🇦

Being a beautiful woman, everything she wore made her even more gorgeous.

Well we can tell someone was born well after the 80's. How many times can 80's be said in disgust? The 80's had the best trends and they were ever changing because we weren't boring.

Some of the clothes Diana wore in the 80's and 90's can still be worn today. The polka-dot outfit as well.
  • Meanwhile....Charles can wear the same three suits in rotation for 40 years.....
  • Diana was effortlessly stylish and modern. She could wear anything and make it glamorous. Natural beauty and brains.

She could wear a bin bag & still look like the superstar she was.
