✅ Chopta is a famous hill station well known for its chilled weather and snowfall during winter. This hill station is also called Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand due to being covered with snow. The main attractions of Chopta are Tungnath Temple and the famous trek called Chandrashila Trek. All these features make Chopta the best winter trek in India (best places to trek in December in India).

✅ Tungnath Temple Uttarakhand: Tungnath is the highest temple of lord Shiva in the world and also known as lord of the peaks. As per hindu mythology, tungnath temple is third kedar of panch-kedar which was made by pandvas. Like the Char Dham, Tungnath temple is also open only for 6 months, the rest of the time is closed due to heavy snowfall. The doors of the temple are opened for the devotees from May to October, this time is most suitable for Tungnath Shiva temple visit.

✅ Chandrashila Trek: If you are trekking for the first time then Chandrashila is a great starting point for beginners. After climbing 2.5 km from Tungnath temple, you reach to the Chandrashila peak. A heavenly view of the Great Himalayas may be seen from the beautiful Chandrashila top. It is an experience many trekkers cannot forget. According to Hindu mythology, both Shri Ram and Ravana did penance on Chandrashila. As this is a easy trek, within a day you can visit Tungnath and Chandrashila trek.

📌 How to reach Tungnath?

From Haridwar you have to take bus or cab to Rudraprayag then Ukhimath. From Ukhimath you can get shared car for Chopta Tungnath. On the chopta's main square there is a entry gate for tungnath and chandrashila peak from where you will start trekking.

📌 Tungnath Trek Cost: Tungnath Chandrashila trek can be done in Rs. 3000-4000 per person including accommodation, public transport, meal & entry fee.

📌 Best time for Tungnath Chandrashila Trek: Tungnath temple opens for pilgrims in the month of may and closes in October. If you wanna enjoy snowfall then you can come in November - December - March - April.
