We embarked on a 1600km journey around the Western Cape with some of the craziest cars SA has to offer!

Day 1 saw us leaving at the back of the pack from the V&A, following a modified Aventador SVJ and Huracan. After dealing with some treacherous weather and tricky road conditions, we finally made it out to the mountains and into some twisty roads, as things started to clear up nicely. We, however, decided to drive with the pack until the Muizenburg stop-off point and not go the whole way through to Hermanus.

Day 2 marked the proper start of our adventure, where we met up with Sashin in his straight piped E92 BMW M3 and drove straight through to Hermanus. Upon arrival, it didn’t take too long for the cars to get started and hit the road from there. Throughout the drive we stopped at multiple stop-off points to grab some refreshments and to get fueled up, while tackling some insane mountain passes in between. The weather was on point as well. Our journey for the day lead us to George, where we parked off in the middle of the town for a public parade to the Fancourt hotel. This is where the cars would stay for the evening.

Day 3 started where Day 2 left off, from the Fancourt hotel, where we set off to tackle some more insane mountain passes that offered up some incredible views. There is nothing quite like chasing supercars through the twistys, while being engulfed with a symphony of exhaust notes throughout the journey. We did kind of mess up by trying to go ahead of the pack while they were at their lunch stop in Barrydale, only for us to realise that the cars weren’t going to drive through the spot where we stopped at... This resulted in a major catch-up stint once we heard which way the cars were going. We eventually caught up with the rest of the pack after some intense driving and cruised our way over the Franschhoek Pass and into the final stop and lay over for the day at Le Franschhoek hotel.

With some hesitation due to being tired from the previous 2 days of hardcore travelling, I decided to do Day 4 as well. I made my way to the Killarney International Raceway where the participants of the rally could get some track time in their incredible machines and to see what they are capable of. I definitely didn’t regret attending this day because hearing that Novitec Aventador SVJ tackling the track was just unreal! The car eventually got flagged and taken off the track due to the noise limits that the track permits. It’s actually crazy to think about because the SVJ is louder than any of the cars that actually race around the track annually... With that signalling the end of the track day, the last stint of The Cape 1000 was to head back to the V&A Waterfront where it all started.

This was by far the best journey we’ve ever had and something I feel privileged to have been able to document. The entire trip was completely unplanned and just so happened to work out the way it did, but I couldn’t be more grateful for it all... A big thanks goes out to Sashin for taking us along this unbelievable journey and for keeping up with the big guns! That E92 BMW M3 has a new found respect in my books. The level of potential that the car has is one not to be underestimated.

  • Bro, this is like the best run I have ever watched. My key highlights were the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ and the e92 run, the GT3 & E92 back to back, and last but not least the V12 symphony of the SVJ at Killarney. I think this is one of the best runs ever from @DNSpots , you know how to capture the best parts at every run. Keep up the good work. We'll be gladly waiting for more. Salute.
