Notice how the real estate guy wouldn't admit high insurance cost and other inflation for the reasons.

Beautiful, but hot, humid, flooding, critters, hurricanes, flat, expensive and overrated
  • Living in Florida and vacationing in Florida are two completely different experiences. I lived in Orlando from 2005-2022 and moved up to Pittsburgh. Best decision I ever made. It's way cheaper up here and the people are nicer. And the winters aren't that bad. You get used to the cold.

I retired and relocated from Miami to Denver. Home Insurance, constant inspections to raise premiums, hurricanes 🌀 threats, flooding , very high cost of living were some of the factors. Investments and income do not grow as fast and as much as the Insurance industry demands from home owners.

A realtor will never say costs are the reason folks are leaving.

Florida isn't a nice place to live before the pandemic, it still isn't after
  • @mkultra8244
Perfect, everybody get out! It’s driving the price of rent back down in my local area with so many people leaving

What is "in-migration" and "out-migration"? The English language already has words for these concepts, "immigration" and "emigration" respectively. A news organization should know better.

The other side looks greener but it is not greener. People moved to Florida and Texas. Many of them are moving out of them

If you have children it’s not even about politics. The sweet dumbness is less cute when education and healthcare is involved and you have kids. This place is literally insane

I have lived in FL ten years now. It used to be a great vacation location but as a resident it has become incredibly divisive and styfiling. State politicians are far more interested in passing corrosive legislations which do not help any Floridian with insurance crisis, homeless, home prices, inflation and the worst medical fraud in the nation. Useless state governing is the result when you have the Governor and the majority of the same party. I am a Republican but I am a disgusted one at that.
  • After the Surfside (Champlain Towers) collapse, any building more than 25 years old & within 3 miles from the coast need extensive inspections. And expensive repairs (given the rising sea levels). Many retirees simply cannot afford to spend additional hundreds of thousands of dollars in one-time fees, so they get evicted... And leave (Similarly, many homeowners cannot afford flooding and hurricane insurance)

I lived in Florida for 5 years. Hated it and moved back to Illinois. Jobs were scarce, pay was crap and the people were trashy

I bought a mobile home in 2017 with a lot rent of $420. Today the lot rent is $850 and when I sell the next owner has to pay $1050. The lot rent has raised so high that I will have to sell my mobile home for a loss because nobody wants to pay that much for lot rent. Real Estate Investment Trusts are buying up mobile home parks and doubling the lot rents. It doesn't matter if you've lived their for years, you can be evicted in a short amount of time. In Florida there are NO safety nets. If your family can't or won't help and your church won't help you will be homeless! Welcome to Florida!!!

As an former Florida resident, Florida looks beautiful until you get there and realize, oh yeah... that's why I left.

Ever since I moved into my condo 2.5 years ago my maint has increased $325 per month. My car insurance for my corra is now over $2k per year. The traffic is horrendous and they are charging you to drive on roads that were already paid for and in some case depending on the rate of traffic it’ll cost you $15 to drive 8 miles. You want Fla come and get it.
  • If they watched the news they would’ve had second thoughts about the prospect of moving there in the first place.
  • @tom23245
I lived in Florida for 7 months. Aside from Winter and early Spring, and I'm assuming late Fall, the rest of the year was disgusting temperatures and humidity. For those who've never experienced above body temperature air with 98% humidity, I can only say you've been spared.

I left Florida for Oregon, six years ago, after living there for 31 years. Two of my former neighbors just moved from Florida to West Virginia, two days ago, after living there for 36 years. We got out because of Florida's politics under Ron DeSantis and the Republican legislature...they brag about loving freedom, while taking it away from those who disagree.
  • I've lived in 15 places from NYC to Las Vegas and Chicago to Orlando, as large as NYC and as small as Cedar Lake Indiana. Florida is easily the worst place I ever lived...imo.
