How Venice Plans To Save Itself From Sinking

The iconic city of Venice is sinking due to a couple of reasons, some man-made, some natural. But is it possible to save the city from its seemingly doomed fate? Maybe. And today, I'll be telling you how Venice plans to do it.

I just remember during the Covid lockdowns how the water became clear with all kinds of fish and dolphins seen swimming in the canals for the first time in ages. Crazy

The greatest reason infrastructure hasn't been build on time or within budget is not rising costs but terrible, egregious levels of corruption.
  • Can't wait for future historians to uncover the lost City of venice
  • Venice began to sink due to the Italian government of the day increasing the opening of the lagoon to the Adriatic in the 1950s. This and dredging the lagoon to allow tankers to enter and reach the industrial site to the west of the lagoon has caused this issue. This is a disaster caused by greed, with no thought of culture, history or the people who called Venice home The Italian Government should be taken to account

Galveston Texas was an island that got hit by the largest hurricane ever recorded and they raised the entire city by many feet and built a giant seawall

  • Thank you for this extremely wonderful video.. ❤️ I love the " Citt'a di Veniza " I go to my Italian lessons in the City and walk through this City every day... off the beaten track from the tourist and I get very emotional thinking that this City can sink.

I live in Florence Italy. But I visited Venice in 2019 November. I was there just for 4/5 hours, only visited san marco area which is a famous tourist spot. When we were about to return it started to rain. The next morning I was in Florence. I saw the news that the place I visited the day before was in knee-deep water due to rain. The whole city was underwater. I was like thank God I got to visit the place without any problem.
  • I visited Venice in 1989. We were told then it would be underwater in 10 years. That was over 30 years ago, soooo.....

I hate that Venice is considered somewhat the "romantic jewel in the crown" Anywhere else in the world a flooded city, that stinks of shit, would be regarded as a national disaster.
  • This is one of the best videos on Venice I've seen, really good info.
  • Its inevitable, civilizations get built and eventually destroyed. By what we can never be to sure. Venice is no exception. It will be a great ancient city once its gone.
