Spider-Man 2 the game is one of the greats! While the PSP version didn't do anything revolutionary, it is still a solid brawler with tight level design and serviceable combat mechanics.

These graphics are CRAZY for PSP

This is literally Spider-Man 1. The music and sound effects are reused

I enjoyed the hell out of the PSP version of Spider-Man 2. Vicarious Visions has an incredibly solid track record with Spider-Man/comic book based/licensed games and this one is no different. I enjoyed that it played basically like an enhanced version of Spider-Man 2002. Graphically it was insane for its time for something on a handheld. My only real negative is that it's pretty short, but it's a good time while it lasts.

My god this is by far the one that Tobey's phoning it in the most 😂
  • Calling the pc version mid is the highest praise I've ever heard for that game
  • I also grew up with this game, first game I had for my PSP And I also replayed this year and its still really fun to go back to

I love this game! The reason the levels are so short is because handheld games were designed to be played in short bursts. The idea is that you'd pick it up, play a level or two, and go on with your day. I always thought it was a nice thing when I was on a car ride to the store, when I rode the bus, or really any time when I was simply needing to kill time outside the house.

ANOTHER Fun Fact: There are E3 videos of Spider-Man 2 for the PSP that showcase a beta version of the game. The HUD was the same as the first game on the PS2 and you could actually SPRINT in that version.
  • Man this game and especially it's music, takes me back, the first game I got on psp I got on psp too. It's weird but I really loved the tutorial missions and played them just as much as the actual story. Maybe it was the weird green aesthetic. And the mysterio missions low-key had a strong horror vibe that had a strong effect on me. I'm definitely gonna replay some of the boss missions soon.

Damn I've never played this game on the PSP before but NGL it looks way more fun on the PSP 😂🕷️🕸️

Toby's delivery in the games is too funny. He must hate video games or something, cause he damn sure doesn't seem to take the job seriously, unlike in the films. He sounds like he's sitting on the floor with his child playing with action figures lol

Wow this looks so much better than on the consoles. PSP is simply a legendary handheld computer. PS2 it looks like a cardboard open box.
  • I grew up with the GBA port of Spider-Man 2. It's main menu theme is embedded in my mind and soul. Also, we got to fight the Lizard. You know, like the first trailer teased.

That was the game that introduced me to PSP. Me and my parents went for a dinner to a Georgian cuisine restaurant that had a nice terrace in the back. I saw this kid sitting on the stairwell playing on a really strange device (that was 2005 i think?). I stood behind him and my brains were blown away by the visuals. That was it. That was spiderman 2. I asked him, what is this thing and how are you playing games on it. The kid pulled an eject button and it spew out a disc. My face was literally O_O Nothing came close to this moment of being blown away by technology since. I pulled my dad out of the table to show him this thing that this kid was playing Spiderman 2 on. Few months later get a gift for my birthday, the PSP value pack along with the Demo disc. I played that disc into oblivion, watched music videos on it and played included games. And i was also gifted GTA Liberty City Stories. It was great, thats for sure (later to be pivotal in modding my PSP), but i needed Spiderman. More time passes, me and my mum casually go to the electronic store and there it was - Spider Man 2 UMD on the shelf. I asked my mum if we could get it, and she did. This was one of the most memorable days in my life, playing a spiderman on psp for weeks. I can still remember the soundtrack in my head, the beautiful graphics and gameplay were awesome too. Thanks mum. Good times. Fun fact a lot of music in this game was sample based, and the mysterio level is literally the doc level from first Desperados game. Quite a nice revelation i had recently
  • It’s weird that JK Simmons voiced J Jonah here but not in the console versions

I played this when I first installed the PSP emulator and enjoyed it. A shame I never got it when I had an actual PSP.

My favorite Vulture design is his Marvel Knights look. Making his typical green/white suit black and red actually makes Toombs look like a vulture with his bald pale head. Shame I never played this. I would have enjoyed it. It's a shame level-base structure aren't used more with superhero games. Fun video. I love hearing you talk about comic stuff. And to answer your question about Spidey eating to make webbing, the Spider-Island event had Peter tell Callie Cooper to eat fries regularly since the starch helps make webbing.

25:31 "circus in town?" Also have you ever done the bonus challenge at the end of the PS2 version where you fight Doc Ock, Shocker, Rhino, and Calypso all at once? It's a really hard fight since Calypso has a broken freezing ability. She was cut from the game, but used as a bonus along with the Lizard's lizardmen since he was also meant to be in the game with Kraven. The story from the Spider-Man 3 game is basically what we would have gotten probably.

How come I never played it and never knew of its existence being a Spider-Man fan and a big lover of the Trilogy! Maaaaaaan!
