In this video I explain how to restore a dying Basil plant. Without repotting and feeding most store bought basil plants will slowly deteriorate and won't live much longer than six months. However if a basil plant is transferred to a larger pot, kept well fed and is put in a warm sunny windowsill they will very quickly grow into a large plant which will provide lots of heathy leaves for many months.

The time lapse at the end showing the plant's recovery is a thing of beauty! Thank you for a great vid.

"Your plant might look like this after sitting on your window for six month" had me on the floor, my Basil looks like this after five days 🤣

I never realised that I didn’t need to just throw out a basil plant when it starts getting leggy and flowering. You’ve inspired me to save my sad supermarket basil. Thank you so much for such an insightful and informative video. Love the time lapse! I’m subscribing to your channel right now.

When I saw this was 14 minutes long I thought you were going to waste a bunch of our time but you were constantly giving us valuable enlightening information throughout. Well done!

Thanks, this is exactly what I needed. My mom's basil keeps dying, now I can save the day.
  • Thank you for demonstrating reviving the Basils with the time-lapse camera. This not only shows it’s really the same plant you saved, but also so interesting to watch the new life coming out! Thank you!!

As a former gardener, I admire how professional and to-the-point this video is. Kudos.

I'm a beginner gardener, thank you for showing why store bought basil wilt. I seriously thought I did something wrong because mine kept wilting. Last pot of basil lasted 6 months then died and I just gave up. Going to give your advice a shot

Finally! Someone who gets to the point with excellent demonstration, useful tips, and proof of concept! Thank you

Alright I did all this and it's been several weeks. I'm thrilled. I'd actually put my basil out in the plant graveyard because I was losing hope, but I went ahead with all the advice in this video and now she's looking big, dark, and lush. It's time for another pruning, and I think I'll be aggressive with it again because there's still a big leggy distance between the new lower leaves and the older mid height leaves. Perfect time to get into propagating! Thanks for this video, it's stellar!!

Thanks you for posting this up. Its a silly story, but this brought back some sadness for me. When covid first hit, and shopping was so difficult, I bought a little basil plant. My girlfriend and I kept it alive for quite a while, transferring it to a larger pot, and using plant food and some extra lights over the winter. Somehow that silly little plant was something I could focus on improving, when things were so weird. Well, eventually it got to a state that I couldn't manage it well, or maybe neglected it, and we lost it. Silly, because it's just a plant, but the loss still makes me sad. I think I might try again.
  • Despite there being an endless number of videos on basil… this one is the clearest, most informative by far!
  • @Liguorienne
As I watch her growing I could feel her happiness 🥰
  • @dimatadore
Love the time lapse. My last basil plant lived in a big pot for 6 years before finally leaving me.
  • I am so happy this little plant got saved. That time laps really shows how much it thrives and is happy with it's care.

Finally an incredibly informative video on house plants. Big thanks from a serial basil killer.

I think you just convinced me to try growing basil one more time. I've killed so many over my life, I just figured they're to delicate. Poor things were either over or underwatered, starved and crammed in undersized pots. (I did try repotting one - it didn't like my hamfisted approach.)
  • @opheliac9
Wow--I'm stunned with the "after" time lapse, though now I feel a bit bad about some basil plants I've had in the past 😅
