Met a guy in Jomtien last week. He got an infected mosquito bite, gangrene set in, Thai hospital costs were £650 a day. He was uninsured. He flew back to the UK and was quoted £1.5m privately for an emergency operation to transfer a vein to save his leg. He chose amputation above the knee. He was otherwise healthy and all of this happened within 3 months.

I bought AIA Ins in Thailand. I even took notes on waiting periods when I confirmed with the agent (30 days this, 90 days that).  Then my cardiologist said I need an angiogram and likely a stent. It was 1 year 8 months after buying the policy and AIA refused to pay. I suddenly have a 2 year waiting period. We can't find that anywhere in the policy. And I had one of those 'no issues' letters from a Dr plus labwork as proof.

I contacted Alex after watching your last video. The book is also very good. I interviewed a few International Insurance brokers and Alex was by far the most knowledgeable and helpful. We will use his help to obtain our health insurance!

I am screwed, I have had two strokes caused by medical malpractice 30 years ago, which gives all insurance an out. I have medicare now with a G plan and have not bought coverage when I travel. One tiny claim for antibiotic after being scratched by a stray dog in Sri Lanka was not covered by Allianz. So going bare when traveling and just leaving it up to the universe since I survived probably the worst case in the past. Love Thailand healthcare and dental and often pay there.

How many months do you prefer to stay at one place before moving to the other and which location you're currently enjoying...I really love to see your cost of living videos.

One company was reluctant to accept me at age 67 because of "pre-existing conditions" altogether. However, they found a way to ACCEPT pre-existing conditions BUT NOT health events ARISING FROM the pre-existing conditions. For example, if a person has controlled high blood pressure, anything connected with the blood pressure itself is covered, but if a doctor would assert that for example a HEART ATTACK was attributed to high blood pressure, there would be no coverage for that heart attack. So the question is whether doctors can assert that events are NOT attributed to the pre-existing condition......

If you know off hand, whats the price difference if USA is included?

It's funny how Americans never really consider healthcare costs in their expenses... until it bites them in the butt and they face bankruptcy, but Canadians always do even though they've lived their lives with free Healthcare. Odd. Now as a Canadian I find your info on living expenses a bit lacking. I know you are on an almost permanent travel plan but many of your audience are not. This altered the living costs SIGNIFICANTLY. For instance your to places to retire in Latin America included Mexico numerous times. That location was in my initial research, until I discovered the healthcare costs. Crazy high, but really insane if you get into your 80's. Just really not affordable. So just a suggestion of including those costs. If course it varies by age but a couple of standard ages with rate per location would allow general comparison. I know I cannot afford USA or second choice Mexico. Why such a stupid long post? Your information (that you said is your business) is more accurate and reasoned than other tubers and seems more valuable due to your large experience. Love to see that data included.
