BACKCOUNTRY SKI ADVENTURE at 12,000 feet!! (10th Mountain Division Hut Sangree Froelicher)

Backcountry Skiers snowboarder splitboarders and hiking enthusiasts of Colorado know that nothing is more fun than a good hut trip! The 10th Mountain Division huts of the high rocky mountains are a true gem and testament to human goodness. For this week's adventure our crew makes camp at the Sangree M. Froelicher hut near Leadville, Colorado nestled in between Copper Mountain and Cooper Mountain in the San Isabel National Forest. We brought our backcountry gear such as beacon shovel probe being wary of Avalanches, and brought our stoke for some good powder ski turns above treeline and a righteous jump session on a sweet kicker featuring plenty of slams and crashes and even a few landed tricks. Fighting the elements of spring skiing slushy snow determined to glob my skins and ski bases to a brick like dead weight, we persevered and had a blast! I use the BCA tracker s avalanche transceiver, BCA probe and mcguckin shovel. BCA magic carpet touring skins with Atomic Coax Skis and Salomon guardian frame bindings. The Rocky Talkie served us well in this high alpine environment. Oakley goggles and Leki poles. North Face outerwear and Duck brand duct tape patches.

This video is awesome; love all the different parts: packing, night arrival, cabin tour, skiing, jump sesh, showcase of bear fighting supplies, ski out. And all the views of the mountains framing the hut balcony are just gorgeous.
