I used to live right next to a grocery/liquor store owned by a Korean couple. If you didn't have enough money you could get up to $10 in food or alcohol. Then they would pin your receipt to the shelf, you could do this until you reached $100. Then at that point you still only needed to pay off part of that and then could go back up to $100. I never had to do this and I asked Tom (his American name) "why do you let people do that? You know some of them are never going to pay". He just said "life is hard and I want people to have food or even a bit of beer". He was a good man he sold the store but I see him from time to time and he is as happy to see me as I am to see him. I asked him about all the unpaid receipts he said he made the new owner pay them all as part of the purchase agreement. That just made me smile. Thanks Tom and Phoebe your the best!
