KEEGAN BRADLEY, NOT TIGER WOODS, TO CAPTAIN U.S. IN 2025 RYDER CUP!? 🏌🏽GOLF PGA TOUR NEWS

Hey y'all! Gather 'round for some jaw-droppin' Golf PGA TOUR NEWS! In a surprising twist, Tiger Woods has turned down the chance to be the U.S. Ryder Cup team captain. Instead, the PGA of America has named Keegan Bradley as the skipper for next year’s showdown at Bethpage Black, breakin' from tradition.

Sources close to Sports Illustrated spilled the beans that Bradley, who missed out on a wild card spot last year under captain Zach Johnson, is now set to lead the team. At 38, Bradley's got six PGA Tour wins under his belt, including the 2011 PGA Championship. But his Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup stints are few and far between, with his last appearance back in 2014.

The 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, Scotland, was quite the hullabaloo under Tom Watson’s second run as captain, sparkin' the creation of a Ryder Cup task force. This task force laid out a new game plan for captain succession, stressin' the importance of servin' as an assistant and gainin' experience through both the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup.

A high-falutin' committee, featuring former captain Steve Stricker and two current players, played a pivotal role in this decision-makin' process. For months, Woods seemed like the PGA of America's one and only pick, given his recent successes. He was the victorious playin' captain of the 2019 U.S. Presidents Cup team and served as an assistant in both the 2016 Ryder Cup and the 2017 Presidents Cup, bringin' in heaps of experience.

But as it turns out, Woods declined the role about the same time PGA CEO Seth Waugh announced he wouldn't be stickin' around past his contract's end on June 30. Woods had previously voiced doubts about committing to the captaincy, citin' his duties as a player director on the PGA Tour policy board.

Bradley, with a 4-2 record in his Ryder Cup outings in 2012 and 2014, and a 2-2-1 record at the 2013 Presidents Cup, brings notable experience. Partnered with Phil Mickelson, he boasted a 4-1 record in the Ryder Cups, even though the U.S. team didn't come out on top.

Last year, Bradley's win at the Zozo Championship and his victory at the Travelers Championship had him in a good spot for a U.S. team spot via points. However, with just six automatic slots up for grabs, he fell short and was at the mercy of the captain's discretion.

Finishing 11th in the standings, he was passed over in favor of Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, and Justin Thomas. The U.S. team's significant defeat, 16½ to 11½, at Marco Simone Golf Club near Rome, sparked quite the debate about Bradley's exclusion.

The sting of bein' left out was evident earlier this year when Netflix’s documentary "Full Swing" captured the moment Bradley got the call at home from Johnson, tellin' him he wasn’t chosen.

Reflectin' on the experience, Bradley told Sports Illustrated before the Netflix release, "I kept remindin' myself this journey ain't easy. If you're on the edge, you probably won't get picked. You gotta prove beyond doubt that you're indispensable. Missin' out on points was a gamble. I knew if it came down to me or the other guys, my chances were slim. I accepted that and kept pushin' to do my best."

Johnson faced heavy criticism after the loss, with many callin' it a "boys' club" due to the choice of Fowler and Thomas over Bradley. It’s noteworthy that Thomas has had successful pairings with Spieth in the past.

"The truth is, those guys have a deep bond. It’s not just a PGA Tour thing; they’re genuine friends," Bradley said. "When you take golf outta the picture, their friendship stays strong. As a golfer, you have your close personal friends and your PGA Tour buddies, and often, your closest friends aren't on the Tour."

Bradley is known for keeping his Ryder Cup bag from the 2012 event, bringing it home and leavin' it untouched, vowing to make another team and win the Ryder Cup before openin' it. Maybe his chance will come as a captain.

"My hope is one day, I win a Ryder Cup, open that bag, and find true peace and satisfaction," he shared in the documentary. "The Ryder Cup is on my mind every single day."
