The entire year after the sicha of 28 nissan, the Rebbe clarified exactly what's needed from us. He certainly never "gave up" on us, or left us in the dark. But we prefer to make excuses because we haven't bothered learning those sichos yet...

In a way all צדיקים live in a משיח reality and his רצון for us to want משיח was for us because we are the ones lacking is this an accurate statement?

Yossi, you comment about the Rebbe’s talk from 28 Nisan 5752. I remember it well and have reviewed the talk many times. I agree with you that the Rebbe revealed to us his frustration and exasperation that the redemption was not proceeding more quickly. Remember, the Rebbe often ended his talks about Geulah and Moshiach with the phrase, תיכף ומיד ממש. This means immediately and without interruption, literally. That מיד is like the Tzemach Tzedek teaches, that it comes from תמיד. But I was older than you and see it differently. I remember the Rebbe pleading with us to be stubborn and to not give up on his life’s work. That at least ten, even one must forge ahead. And that meant primarily learning about Moshiach and the final redemption in every place that it is found in the Torah. So in context to the talk, the Rebbe was frustrated by what appeared to be a delay from 5751, the beginning of the Days of Moshiach and the final redemption. And how would he accomplish histalkut? Figuratively, like he talked about more than once, or literally, in a way of great merit like he described in regard to the fulfillment of the prophecy of beating swords into plowshares? And in that context, and in keeping with the Rebbe’s request that we learn about Moshiach and the redemption wherever it appears in the Torah. The Rebbe, in his letter to Elchonon HaKohen Cohen in volume 1 of his Igrot Kodesh points to a Zohar, parshat Toldot, 139a:67 that is relevant. It mentions there how קבוץ גליות (which means the histalkut of Moshiach ben Yosef) will precede the resurrection by 40 years. And then adds, that we learn this from the Torah which says (Bereshit 25:20) that Yitzchok was 40 years old, etc. The Torah emphasizes that from the Akeidah, where Yitzchok was offered as an Olah at the age of 37 until he married Rivkah at 40, there was a span of 3 years. Marriage נישואיו, that the “final Nun” is 700 ת׳ש and נ׳א. And the remaining letters ישו״י, in small sum are the small sum of רבקה when including the kollel. מעשה אבות סימן לבנים And that span of 3 years is the span from 5751 (תשנ״א) until 3 Tammuz 5754, the day of the histalkut of the Rebbe, to ascend like a korban Olah. And that day preceded the beginning of the time of resurrection mentioned in Shir HaShirim 8:12 and Nitzavim 30:15, meaning 5794 which is 206 years before the year 6000 (ה׳תת). So exactly what the Rebbe wrote about from that Zohar, that 3 year gap from the Akeidah to Yitzchok’s marriage was the siman for us in regard to the final redemption and the coming of Moshiach.

Since the Rebbe spoke so frequently about moshiach, why didn't he clearly and unequivocally tell his chassidim that he is NOT moshiach? That would have been very beneficial to Chabad.
