Those are some great locations for taking pictures, for sure. The farm with the lake reminded me of my parents' house. They lived up the road from a horse farm with a large cattle farm on the other side. In front of the horse farm there was a small lake. When they built the four houses where my parents lived, the lake was an obstacle. Instead of curving the road around the lake, they installed some huge concrete tubes in the lake and put road gravel and road dirt over them making the road go through the lake. I remember more than once, water covering the road in parts for several meters during the spring. It was never so deep that you couldn't drive through it. You just had to keep your car lined up with where the road wasn't under water and pray that someone wasn't coming from the opposite direction. This section of the road was wide enough for only one car. You also had to drive up a hill to get to my parents' house. Going out their front door, you had a very picturesque view of the lake and the horse farm down the hill. I loved spending my summers there as a college/university student. It was a very quiet and peaceful place to live. Looking out their kitchen window, you could see across a valley on a clear day. It was probably 7 to 10 miles to the other side. That was pretty picturesque, too. I really miss those days. Don't quote me on this but, I think that metal piece that you described helped to or was the sole piece functioning to keep a bit of tension on the film against the back of the camera when it's closed so that it was as flat as it can be for when you snap a picture.. That's just a guess.
