I remember vividly the first time I got high and listened to this song. I was 17 in senior year of HS and I was at my friend Matt's house. He had a tiki torch in his backyard and we were sharing hits from the bong. I stared at the candlelight and saw a vision. I remembered what I could, but shortly after my best bud Joey drove me home. We listened to the song otw home (2 minutes max) but it sparked me. I got home, bought the song on iTunes and listened on my iPod on my futon bed. I completely saw the vision, from beginning to end, I envisioned what Zep had in mind. The entire song had a music video with it. I fell asleep without documenting anything that night. The next day in school, I spent periods 1-3 illustrating what I saw. I told my friends about it in class and even wanted to sell it as a comic book. I don't remember what happened to my original copy, but it was spot on with the lyrics, a full day after seeing the vision. I wish i still had that copy, it had genuine inspiration in it and I envy my creativity in the moment as a 17 year old listening to a near 40 year old song at the time. Being young has no replacement. Stay young at heart and be wary of buying that stairway to heaven.
  • The best song ever written, so beautiful, deep and poetic. Zep is marvelous!

This song starts somewhere long ago....and ends in the present. Something very mystical, for lack of a better word, about this song. I know what it is, and at the same time, I do not.

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to heaven When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure 'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven Ooh, makes me wonder Ooh, makes me wonder There's a feeling I get when I look to the west And my spirit is crying for leaving In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees And the voices of those who stand looking Ooh, makes me wonder Ooh, really makes me wonder And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason And a new day will dawn for those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now It's just a spring clean for the May queen Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on And it makes me wonder Ohhhh, woah Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know The piper's calling you to join him Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last When all are one and one is all To be a rock and not to roll And she's buying a stairway to heaven

this one song is greater masterpiece than most of the whole albums of some artist
  • I think Robert Plant really sells out (in the good way) on the vocals in this version, and Page's solo is cleaner and tighter than in the live versions. Bonham's drums, though, are a bit minimized here, whereas you really feel him driving the second half of the song in the live versions.
  • I don't need drugs for “good trip“. I just need Led Zeppelin’s songs 😎
