Rebuilding The Steering Cylinders! | Franna Crane Project | Part 19

Published 2024-07-05
Watch this satisfying transformation of rebuilding the steering cylinders off our Franna Crane! First up, we have a bit of a battle on our hands with a clevis seized on a rod. But with some strategic drilling, boring, and careful removal we free the clevis while saving its threads. The culprit? Roll pins AND Loctite! Next, we use the lathe to turn some tough induction hardened material into two brand new cylinder rods. After getting all the components cleaned, we install new seal kits in both the piston and glands. Then, the hydraulic press comes into play for the meticulous reassembly of both cylinders. Finally, a fresh coat of paint completes the rebuild and gives our steering cylinders a well-deserved makeover. This video takes you straight to the action, showing the entire satisfying process from start to finish. Stay tuned for the next Franna crane project video or catch up on all the previous videos below šŸ˜ŽšŸ‘‡

  • @Hagop64
I know people don't always like talking about money, but hearing your material cost vs replacement part cost is always nice. It gives perspective on just how valuable the work you do with the knowledge you have.
  • Anyone else say "f-off train" when Kurtis was painting? šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ CEE is giving me bad habitsšŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚. Great video as always!
  • Karen's camera work, lighting, and editing here is simply flawless. Always fascinating watching your craftsmanship, Kurtis. šŸ‘
  • @jmasseys
Kurtis, Your new choppers seem to settling in nicely. Your voice is almost back to normal. Congratulations and give us a smile!
  • @Hick25
i canā€™t wait to see what the Frannas final form will be, as Kurtis has said previously he no longer owns a drift car so the Franna is it, iā€™m guessing it gonna be bloody awesome
  • @noisytim
I love how ginormous the drift crane project turned out to be - and how you're just working on it like any other job, showing that you're bigger than it.
  • O.M.G. Those new teeth has got KURTIS speaking in IMPERIAL MEASUREMENT !!!!!!
  • I try to make one person a day smile and my life is worth itā€¦ā€¦ā€¦CEE do you realize you two are responsible for literally thousands of smiles a day worldwide ? ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦.. from all of us a heart felt Thanksā€¦.. From Union Ky USA 34:52
  • You have got 790,000 subscribers who literally can't wait to see that damned crane when it is finished! It is going to be beautiful.
  • This is another video where I can say the two of you never cease to amaze me! The thread issue was one thing, watching it salvaged, another. Outstanding!
  • I take my hat off to you guys. How you manage to crank out new content every week AND run a business is seriously impressive. Great job as always.
  • It is so nice that your dear wife speaks our same language. Just like the gentle ā€œahā€ as you were installing the seals. I too voiced admiration and understanding. God bless!
  • @PalyBiker
I'm a simple man. If I see new CEE video, I press like. Greetings from Slovakia.
  • Kurtis, I gotta say man, you are one very brave and a dedicated person, a few years ago I had all my teeth removed and replaced by implants, however, it left me very subconscious about the new way of speaking and looking, I became somewhat of a reclusive, but you Kurtis was brave enough to go before all your thousands and thousands of supporter and speak, what a man! My hat is tipped off to you sir.
  • @gusviera3905
That's another bit sorted for the Franna! It's fighting you all the way, but it can't stop a determined Kurtis. Done and dusted! I think the butcher bird would probably say, "G'day! I'm just in from Canberra and one of my mates told me you could get a free meal here." šŸ¤£šŸ˜‚ Thanks for letting us watch your work guys. Have a great weekend! Cheers.
  • @swimcube4680
As a mechanical engineer new to my career, thank you for the time and detail you put into these videos!
  • @tinman7551
Itā€™s pretty incredible to see the crane coming together. For the longest time I didnā€™t think you would ever start making it back up hill with the assembly. Feels like you have been disassembling that monster for years šŸ˜® šŸ„° so happy you were able to get your teeth sorted.. fair play.
  • @87mini
I can't wait to see your cost breakdown at the end of the project! I don't know if it was your intent in the first place, but buying a clapped out crane that had the features you wanted, and completely rebuilding it to better-than-new state was brilliant! Not only are you giving several hundred thousand subscribers and who knows how many non-subbies hours of teaching and enjoyment, but you're probably making enough YT revenue to pay for the hours you're spending on it! Thanks to the three of you for bringing sanity, humor, integrity and order to our normally crazy, upside-down existences! Keep up the great work, and God Bless!
  • @Rubbernecker
I swear, between CEE and Andrew Camarata, when I see that a new video just dropped, I get so excited, knowing that the next 30 to 60 minutes are going to be great!! Thank you for that!!!
