Westmalle Brewery: I got a rare inside look! | The Craft Beer Channel

Publicado 2015-06-21
Not many people get to go inside Westmalle Abbey and brewery, and even fewer are allowed to publish photos. Jonny got to do both, and got a fascinating insight into how the monks live and how they brew their remarkable Trappist beers.

Huge thanks to the Abbey for having us, and for adding pictures to our amateur collection.

  • Monastery beer is a celebration of many, many things. Heritage, faith, small private business, and most importantly, exquisite spirits. Cheers!

Keeping monking is perhaps a very good thing to be doing in these turbulent timess.

    God Bless Trappist Beers

I'm driking a Tripel as I watch this. Very nice beer - strong, full bodied and a great citrus flavor. I can see why this is part of a meal for a whole day.

Just tried it for the first time because of this video and loved it. Biggest head I've ever seen on a beer. Even at $7 a bottle here in the US I'm definitely planning on getting more.

I wanna live in Belgium for a while just so I can drink high quality beer everyday at and place.

Just picked up Westmalle Tripel, and I'm drinking one with you, man! (albeit almost a year afterwards in retrospect) Great beer, it deserves every bit of the hype, and Trappist breweries deserve every bit of the respect.

Tried their beer for the first time today. Easily my new favorite style..simple, yet delicious

Orval is probably my favourite (beer, cheese and bread!) had a glass of Orval with my groomsmen just before walking up to the church to get married :D

Great vídeo. Very well put. I live in Belgium, I think I tried them all. Nice of you referring the cheese, because every time I go to westvleteren or achel I bring the cheese. They are outstanding. Other tip was the Sint Bernardus brewery. Outstanding beers, the 8 and the 12 specially. Their Christmas beer is probably the best Christmas beer around. Anyway my top 3 is westvleteren 12, the 8 and Achel extra bruin ( the 9,5%) .Cheers!

westmalle, cant possibly go wrong with that. Trappist at it's finest!
  • Definitely planning on a trip to belgium to explore these types of delicious hand crafted goodness made by the monestary
  • It's on sale in every supermarket here where I live in the Netherlands. Not seen a crate of it yet. Have seen a champagne sized bottle of the Tripel too in one supermarket. Think it was 4:99 Euro. Yes I've tried one ! I also love how I just randomly found this beer by trying different ones. Lockdown today and I randomly look up Westmalle on You Tube and lo and behold I'm drinking the best beer in the world ! And I have one in my hand too now ..Proust !!
  • @Champ33
That’s bad ass! I want to become a beer monk.
  • +jazmox good knowledge! I'd say the hop aroma is still dominated by the yeast though, however fresh it is. When we went into the hop store it was mostly tettnanger they had there too.
