He was Alfred Hitchcock’s favourite leading man, but Cary Grant was more than just an international megastar. Born Archibald Alexander Leach he had a troubled childhood and an unhappy upbringing, which is set to be told in the upcoming bio-drama ‘Archie’. Ahead of its release, we’re joined by Jason Isaacs, who plays the acting icon in the series, to tell us why he was initially hesitant to take on the role, what it was like depicting a real-life character for the first time - and how he’s become very familiar with fake tan!

Jason Issacs is such a wonderful, empathetic actor.
  • I have watched it. It is a very sad story. Jason acts beautifully and with great depths of understanding and compassion.

I've been watching the series and didn't realize it was Jason Isaacs until I checked the credits. His work is absolutely convincing and very believable.

Brilliant acting. No one else could have played it as well as him

It's sad that it took Archie Leach (aka Cary Grant) so long (and so many broken marriages) to look deep within to heal his childhood wounds of abuse and abandonment. Recurring nightmares are the clue that we haven't faced those demons yet. Jason nailed it -- we have to learn not to go after and be fooled by shiny objects (people) out there that we can become obsessed with, but we need to take a good deep look at ourselves to find the wounds crying for attention that need healing. We can't find the love we so desperately seek "out there" until we learn to love ourselves and know that love is to be found within, first and always. I can't wait to see this miniseries when it streams here in the US. Jason, I know you won't disappoint, brilliant you!

I would love to see this drama. Cary Grant was certainly a great actor whose reputation endures even today.
  • Jason did an exceptional Job. He did play cary grant better than I thought possible. It’s a must see doc.

I have not seen Archie. I would like to counterpoint the negativity in this interview: Cary Grant gave so much to so many, countless hours of enjoyment watching his performances that continue to this day. There will never be another individual that is remotely like him. The lesson here may be love yourself first and foremost.

A fan of Jason Isaacs I can’t wait to see this.
  • Cary Grant was a physical actor like no other. He was handsome and debonair like no other actor. For me, Cary Grant movies are a joy to watch. I am sure Jason Issacs, an admired and accomplished actor, got the essence of Cary Grant almost perfect in Archie.

Jason is such a great actor I am really looking fwd to seeing this. As a footnote, I was always surprised that he took the role of Captain Lorca in the disasterous "Star Trek: Discovery" early seasons. Those played like a space pantomime in which almost every character had an "I am not what I seem!" moment. It was about as Gene Roddenberry as some old French farce.

Jason is an awesome actor 👍🏻

I've never been able to get past him ordering Animal Mother to burn the church with Joker's new bride inside. Tavington was a savage.

Just watched Archie, for me, the best thing about it was Laura Aikman. She played Dyan incredibly well.

He was emotionally abused. Considered a throwaway child. Too sad.
  • 🌞wonderful interpretation—thank you, JI, & looking forward to more work from you!

Carry Grant damaged by his parents. He once asked his housekeeper... Why do my marriages fail? She said, well Mr Grant, when your married you want to be single and when your single you want to be married. He was a very smooth actor a handsome man... Everyone wants to be Carry Grant, even I want to be Carry Grant 😌
