Do we truly comprehend how much of our time and attention is given to technology? In his talk, Dino Ambrosi reframes how we think about our relationships to devices, and shares his ideas on how to create healthy digital habits.
Dino Ambrosi, the founder of Project Reboot, is an expert at guiding teens and young adults to relationships with technology that empower them. While studying at UC Berkeley, he created a popular course called Becoming Tech Intentional which he taught to over 60 of his fellow students who reduced their screen time by an average of over 3 hours per day. After graduating in May, he embarked on a mission to spread the contents of his course to a broader audience. Through school assemblies, workshops, and consulting, he has worked with over 500 students and parents to raise awareness about the addictive potential of our devices, drive conversations around digital wellness, and deliver practical strategies to build healthy digital habits. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

“Social media is free, because you pay for it with your time”. Incredibly compelling way to frame the crazy trade-off we partake in.

Social media "tells us that it's more important to be updated about everything, than to be deeply informed about anything". Wow that hits hard, I love that quote.

Hi everyone! Just wanted to express my gratitude for all the support this video has received. It's already reached way more people than I ever imagined, and it has been amazing to read the comments/messages from those who have felt impacted by it. I have a lot more to say about this topic, and I just uploaded a follow-up to this talk on my channel. Please give it a watch if you are looking for more tangible advice on building healthier tech habits!

Always open the app with a purpose in mind and leave when mission accomplished. That's how I fight in this battle.

I uninstalled all social media apps and bought 4 bicycles and now spend about 10 hours a week cycling to work, riding trails in the forest and exploring wherever my bike can take me. I met a wonderful woman who also loves crazy cycling adventures and we share so much great time together doing the thing we love to do. My mental and physical health has improved exponentially. I lost 20kg. I was promoted at work and bought a house and am now able to be there physically, financially and emotionally for my teenage children. I still look at screens, that's almost unavailable, but the time is much reduced. Freeing my mind from the virus of social media has given me my life back. Life's too short to not ride a bike every day.

Restful activities to substitute: reading, doing art, gardening, making music, playing a game, walking in nature, socialising.

I don't use Instagram, Tiktok, WhatsApp and so on, but I waste almost all my free time for YouTube

Social media is like shopping at the store: know what you want going in, or you'll wander endlessly and leave with things you didn't need.

"a letter tells us that our communication doesn't need to be frequent, it just needs to be deep" :)

Best decision I ever made deleting all social media about 6 months ago. Have lived such a more beautiful , peaceful life since.

“When you’re trying to FOMO, you actually missed out on living” Damn, that hits hard!
  • @sree9973
I am 20 and I don't use any social media other than Whatsapp and Youtube for my study related info . I am living a good life focusing on my self with less comparison❤
  • @Nomadsou
The irony of watching this on YouTube 😭
  • Social media does a great job at making us feel like if we aren't constantly engaging there, then we're missing out. This talk does a great job of giving us the perspective that it's quite the opposite. Choosing where we give our time takes self-control and practice. Social media destroys that ability.

I'm an 8th grade math teacher and do a Thoughtful Thursday every week. Made them watch this for one of them. Should've seen their shocked faces! Thank you very much for doing the research and posting this visually!!

This should be viewed by millions. The algorithm don’t want you to see this
