Really not a fan of this bossfight. The first phase is basically perfect, was really fun, had well defined patterns that you can learn. The second phase is atrocious, your screen gets flashbanged every few seconds, and when it's not that, it's Miquellas luscious 3m long hair obscuring Radahn's attacks, making you unable to figure out what he's doing.
  • @mitchsz
So even "nerfed" he's still bullshit? Good to know, thanks Scott!
  • @GrumpySlav
Oh and the infamous "Miquella's nuke" attack that one-shotted my FPS from stable 60 to crumbling 16. The most destructive type of attacks.
  • @nafinbomb
That attack is so powerful not even ongbal could dodge it. He had to play until he got a run where radahn never did that attack in the second phase.
  • @Oone
Not to be that guy but anyone who played Elden Ring can guess who is on your "anti-spoiler thumbnail"...

It's just really disappointing how the first phase is pretty much a perfect masterpiece of a fight and then the second phase just becomes so obnoxious because you can't see anything

I think the damage numbers are a bit high during the second phase, but it's honestly nothing compared to the visual clutter that Miquella kindly provides, it made it SO difficult to even read what Radahn was doing, which didn't help given that I was already struggling to even make it to the second phase so I could barely learn his attacks. Still think the fight is good but man a lot of those 74 attempts were literally just trying to figure out what he was actually doing.
  • I still haven’t even beaten Radahn. This boss makes Malenia look like Pinwheel I swear. It’s not even the fun kind of difficult like Messmer, Rellana and Bayle were in this DLC, where sure they’re super hard but learning the moveset is awesome. I’ve been on him for two days now, while taking breaks between. Phase 1 is fine, I think the meteor attack and double slash attack are a bit weird to dodge but that’s a minor. I’ve legit no hit Phase 1 before at this point. Phase 2 is just not it, the boss barely gives you any windows to attack yourself while he does a zillion combos, so many attacks have lingering AoEs with all the stupid light pillars so you always get roll caught, and there’s SHIT ALL OVER THE SCREEN SO I CANT EVEN SEE WHAT HE’S DOING HALF THE TIME. I’ve fought this boss so many times and I still don’t have dodging the flippy attacks or the nukes down to a science it’s crazy. Malenia has like 1 super bullshit attack while Radahn’s out here with 10 hahaha

reviewers died to it more but from a no hit perspective its actually stronger now. you used to be able to clean roll through the first two hits with one roll and now its a frame trap that is impossible to reliably dodge (reliably being the key word here)

I honestly think if this boss had its health reduce by around 10% and some of the attacks made much more manageable and readable(Looking at you cross slash, and phase two light attacks.) and also gave you some more opportunities to attack and stance break then this fight would be top 10 best souls fight easily As it stands however it feels like it's genuinely impossible unless you're using a bleed build with some mimic tear, impenetrable thorns, or some insane cheese. It's not fun to learn his moves when you get locked into a combo and die because you can't get out. This is the only boss in the DLC I genuinely think they made a mistake on with the rest being decent to incredible (Especially Messmer and Bayle). Update: I decided to try to practice this boss using the posture bar mod and holy shit its actually much more managable than I thought. I don't think his health or damage needs to be adjusted, however I defintely do think they need to adjust the readability and dodgeablity of some of the attacks. The cross slash is practically impossible to consistently dodge to the point i just tank through it and I defintely think they need to tone down some of the light effects because it can be very diffcult to see what the boss is doing at times. But yeah if you're on PC, get the posture bar mod installed it will make your life so much easier. Honestly a stupid decision they made was not showcasing the stance meter of bosses. The boss regains his posture really quickly though.

I had to put on sunglasses for the 2nd phase otherwise my eyes would physically hurt
  • I always get clipped by the second hit of that triple slash. If that move one shotted in the release game, I would have left a negative review like all the other scrubs.
  • @Tbot_2
I was under the impression that Messmer was the final boss and that fight is absolutely incredible. Then I got to this and low key hate it
  • Deflection physick is the way. Dodge on release is most of the reason people dodge attacks late. You end up pressing circle in time but not quite letting go in time. Whereas with deflection you just fast twitch press l1 when you perceive any movement and if its a delayed attack just calm down and press l1 in time with the attack.
  • In all my attempts on this boss even when I finally beat him. I still do not know how to not take damage from that attack. His first swing I dodge but his second comes out so fast I do not understand how to avoid it.

Appreciate the effort to not spoil things in thumbnails/titles

Fun fact: they actually nerfed this in calibration patch 1.12.1. That means that if you never went online after downloading the DLC you were on calibration patch 1.12, so some players (like me) did experience this attack stunlocking them
