Haseeb Iqbal is a DJ, broadcaster and writer from London. He has a monthly radio show on Worldwide FM in which he interviews certain guests, exploring the connection between their lives and music. He has been recently given a weekly morning show too, which he uses to zoom into certain musical periods, exploring the cultural histories that have defined those sounds.

His debut book 'Noting Voices: Contemplating London's Culture' was published last year on Rough Trade Books. It maps the connection between physical space and community in his home city, explored via the lens of the jazz resurgence he grew up within. His article for The Guardian earlier this year, exploring the history of Pakistani jazz, was critically praised and celebrated widely for connecting certain musical dots that have been overlooked for decades.

These records draw on the connection between Jamaica and the UK from the 70s until the present day, exploring different threads of the foundational dub sound.

Haseeb isn't just a great DJ but also a super insightful writer about the London jazz scene and artistic community-building. I discovered his work through this video and found it so interesting that I reached out with a cold email in October asking to interview him and, despite me not being associated with any particular outlet, he said yes---simply because he could tell I was genuine about engaging with his ideas. And (like with this scorching set) he was super sincere and put his all into our conversation. He's a truly generous and principled guy. I don't have the reach to promote it much, but I think the interview ended up being a really valuable dive into Haseeb's work/ethos; it's posted at the top of my channel if anyone wants to learn more! Good vibes to you all 🎷

The dub has entered his blood stream. This DJ's energy is part of what makes this set stellar.

I'm enjoying watching him enjoying his job almost more than the music 😂💗

They should have cafes that have a similar aesthetic as where he is with someone dj ing like this it would be so cool :) I’d definitely go to the cafe every single day to listen to his music
  • Not only is the music fun and (dub) funky, but the order and mixing is top notch. I was bummed that the video wasn't up Sunday (my music in the jungle day), but having had a terribly stressful day, this is the perfect way to let go of the negativity. Divine timing, I guess. :) Wishing you all love, joy and positivity.
