Welcome back ladies and gentleman! It's time to complete a thorough analysis of Trials and Tribulations! After two great experiences I had when I reviewed the previous two games, I knew that T&T would be both a joy to review but also a challenge. I hope you enjoy the whole new visual themes and different "feel" compared to the previous Ace Attorney reviews. I'm always trying to make each review feel distinct and improve my review-making!

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR WATCHING! Please read this entire comment! Here are some timestamps to help divide the video into multiple viewing sessions: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations - 0:00 Development History - 6:41 Turnabout Memories - 9:25 The Stolen Turnabout - 26:36 Presentation - 1:02:16 Recipe For Turnabout - 1:09:42 Intermission - 1:38:25 Turnabout Beginnings - 1:39:33 Bridge to the Turnabout - 2:00:43 Conclusion - 2:48:35 Also! At 2:59:32, There's an unintentional skip over a couple sentences of my script. Here's what's missing in the video: "In each ‘Analyzation’, I heavily press on one overwhelmingly positive aspect that I believe each game embodies. PW had feelings of innocence and humble beginnings, JFA had dual toned dialogue with clever balances between something being funny but also sad. Trials and Tribulations… simply embodies a finale." -- Continues at 2:59:32

Trials and Tribulations: The game that made people retroactively grieve Mia's death
  • Dahlia's theme is called "Distant Traces of Beauty"? Now I'm picturing Gumshoe going "sir! We found traces of beauty on the witness!" XD
  • "You are going to get schooled if you don't pay attention... which AA fans do all the time." AJ:AA says hi.

Can we talk about how ridiculously (In the context of a Lawyer Visual Novel) powerful Mia is? First off, by default Mia has the best track record of any DA in the entire series. She never lost a case, once. Manfred lasted 40 years without a loss but the justice system is so biased in favour of the prosecution that anyone with a decently commanding presence and guts can achieve a several year win record. (Hell, payne lasted 7) Mia could very well be considered the Manfred Von Karma of defence attorneys. In the second case, she obviously dies, but this is almost more of an Obi Wan death than a proper one, where being able to be anywhere either Maya or Pearl is allows her to help Phoenix out wherever. Ironically enough, this very mechanic is what allows her to basically het revenge on her own killer just 3 days after she dies. Throughout the first two games she seemingly knows everything, or at least is constantly on the right track, and even acts as a failsafe at multiple times, almost acting as Phoenix’s plot armour. Then trials and tribulations happened. Save for maybe Edgeworth in his games, Mia is without a doubt the most delightfully cocky mc you ever get the pleasure of playing as. And like Edgeworth, she can absolutely back up her cockiness and then some. In HER FIRST CASE OF HER CAREER she defends an ex con in a seemingly open shut case against EDGEWORTH until the defendant killed himself. If AA1 hadn’t established that Miles had never lost, the writers very well could’ve given Mia Edgeworth’s first loss. The game concludes with Mia performing a fucking exorcism on the ghost of a serial killer in a courtroom WHILE SHE’S DEAD by roasting the fuck out of her, and then proceeding to blow Godot the fuck out until he demands a 1v1 with Phoenix. Then just imagining her in Phoenix causes him to break down so hard his mask explodes. Mia isn’t just a defence attorney. She’s not even a god among men. Mia’s a lovecraftian beast among ants. And its great. Mia is easily my favourite character in the series. The fact that I didn’t really piece together how relatively overpowered Mia was until I took a closer look speaks to how well written she is. She never comes off as too powerful, like a Mary sue/Gary Stu, and she’s just generally well written.

This game’s final case is honestly one of my favourite pieces of writing of all time

Mr. Fawle's tale is even more tragic when you realize, that if he didn't drink the poison, Phoenix may have died. So he inadvertently took the bullet for another person.
  • You didn't talk about Godot saying "A lawyer can only cry when it's all over" to Maya. One of my favourite moments from one of my favourite characters in the series. Fantastic analysation, though. 3 hours long, but no moment is wasted. I look forward to your AJ:AA analysation, as I love the game and I can't wait to hear you talk about the themes, the moments, Kristoph and the characters in general.

Okay, I finally watched it and here's my AAAA (Ace Attorney 'Analyzation' Analyzation). I'm really impressed by your editing, especially for something three hours long. Honestly, it deserves more views, though I can see why it doesn't given how some people could be turned off by such a long video; I personally love long stuff. Your voice is nice and charismatic, which is more than I can say for a lot of YouTubers. You already basically had that down, but I think you're improving even more. While I knew a lot (but not all) of the tidbits in the introduction, I'm really glad you gave it as "backstory" for the making of the game. It's very useful in making this a truly strong analysis. I was most looking forward to seeing what you had to say about the Stolen Turnabout, given that it's my favorite non-final case (and MAAAYBE favorite overall). I'm glad you liked it too. Atmey is definitely as great as everyone says. I really loved the unconventionality to it as well, which was probably a big reason why I loved it (though Atmey played a major role too). And I loved how it was wrapped up so nicely for Phoenix's client in the end due to Double Jeopardy. While I like Godot a lot, I do wish his motivation were better; dude, don't be so mad at Phoenix. Maybe part of the reason I give him a pass is due to nostalgia; watching the last case online was what got me into the series. I didn't even think about the lack of gallery reactions to the killers in the trilogy; that's a good point; it would be nice to have more of that, though I guess it does work best with egocentric guys like Atmey in order to make their downfall more painful. I didn't know about the music having to be compressed to fit five cases, and after looking into it further, I found some other neat info on Bikini's height, Gumshoe's coat, and Oldbag's cameo, which you probably already know about, but it's pretty fascinating to me, so thanks for mentioning that. I take issue with Recipe for Turnabout as well due to suspension of disbelief, but like you, if it's for laughs, I don't mind AS much. It probably bugs me more than you, though. I don't have much to add on the last case; I basically agree with everything, especially about the cameos. I know some people are iffy on them, and Miles defending was a little hard to accept when I look back on it as an adult, but otherwise, it was some nice fanservice. And ooh, Google+ community reference on a poll; that's nice. And we're in the Special Thanks too along with me and Ema being special enough to have our names in. *brag brag*. I see those sprites you use were apparently made for you; that's really neat too; I was wondering where they were from. Anyway, I don't have a nice wrap up to this AAAA like you did with AAA, but this was definitely a solid video. Keep up the good work, whether it's with AA stuff or anything else aaand hopefully my giant rant of a comment isn't too off-putting; you definitely don't have to feel obligated to reply.

I just finished the trilogy and I have to say that case 5 of T&T is probably my favorite case out of all of them.

I find myself coming back to this once in a while, its just a good video. Just a good video. You dont find that too often anymore on Youtube, but there are some gems, this being one of it. Thanks IKG, thanks

I’ve never heard anyone accuse Godot of sexism for his anger at Phoenix regarding Mia’s death; his line to Franziska, though... I’m hoping there’s a non-sexist interpretation of “know your role”, but I can’t think of it. Still, a great character regardless of his flaws, and this was a fantastic analysis of my favorite game in the original trilogy!
  • @ahbeef
having just found your videos and watching your reviews of the first two games gave me the motivation to finally go back and finish AA3, and right when i do this comes out. perfect timing
  • Woah, seriously, this is the best analysis I've seen for AA, honestly. While some points I disagreed too, this really did give me a new perspective on not only T&T, but also JFA and PW. As someone who has been a fan for nearly a decade now, it is truly something special seeing your favorite game series of all time, being treated with love and respect from a fellow fan. This was an extraordinary series that really did help me get through my sick days. Seriously, you have my gratitude and praise. Keep up the amazing work, mate! This is definetly a channel worth subscribing to.
  • Great review Gavin it was definitely worth the wait and it was just a pleasure hearing someone go so in-depth with this game. I totally agree with you with the magic of the Ace Attorney series, I always look back at these games with so much love and respect towards them. Also Gavin 3 HOURS I actually took the intermission this time.
