I was on the same frequency as this man when he initially contacted ATC. We thought for sure the plane was going to crash. Amazing job he did. "I don't know how to fly this plane" still gives me chills

Both of these two men deserve the credit for bringing this plane down safely. Well done.

I'm glad that he said he felt like a hero. So many people who are heroes say "I'm not a hero, I'm just doing my job" Yes, you might be doing your job, but that doesn't mean every situation is the same. Had he not been there, this would've certainly ended tragically. He's 100% a hero. And let's not forget how much credit the passenger deserves too. This was a team effort. Amazing story.

Well, I am an airline pilot, retired now 65 years old, and this is a GREAT story.

This guy was 100% a pilot in his past life. He is a hero

You could say he learns "on the fly"... I'll let myself out. Super glad that this story had a happy ending and the passenger/pilot will be able to see his, yet to be born, child. I hope the actually pilot is okay, too.

People don’t understand what they’re capable of until put in a situation where they have no choice but to survive. Granted that doesn’t mean we’d all be as calm as this dude but don’t sell yourself short!

The passenger is the real hero in my opinion. He kept his stress in check and followed instructions well enough to make a safe landing. Most people would be frantic and probably crash, despite the air traffic controllers experience over the radio. Well done.
  • Hope someone offers him a full ride through pilot training if he every wants to learn.

Further details are starting to emerge on what the passenger had to contend with. The whole thing started with a 300mph dive losing 6,000 feet per minute as the pilot has slumped forward over the controls, and this passenger was sat in the back at the time! It's a phenomenal story.
  • The nose down speed approached 300mph before the intrepid passenger, now pilot, wrangled the stricken pilot out and off the controls and then leveled out the 208...Bravo!...he followed the 3 golden rules of flying: 1. Aviate 2. Navigate and 3. Communicate....good on ya' Mate!

I'm a pilot, and I salute the new Captain! I could never have landed the plane safely under those circumstances before I had flight training!
  • @Bcdf-ei9el
Need an interview with the passenger as well!
  • @patriot9455
passenger/pilot "I am on the ground, what do I do now" ATC , exhaling " don't take off, stop and wait for us" Passenger/pilot, "Sounds good to me."
  • @twig265
I just watched the interview with the guy that landed the plane. He said the pilot never slumped over. I’m glad everyone is safe.
  • @aarvig
"Captain Morgan helped me land the plane" =) Seriously, well done gents.

I know people don't often talk about natural aptitude outside academia these days but I reckon that passenger has a natural aptitude for flying. To listen to an instructor over the radio whom he's never met giving him flight instruction and to impliment those instructions perfectly for the first time in real time, is staggering. I've seen videos of students foul up on a flight sim with their instructor standing right beside them and it's not even their first time!
  • @Luc3ntiX
nothing will ever feel difficult to achieve for him after this, amazing 👏
  • That guy's got a stellar brain, the heart of a lion and a set of big brass balls. The guy must be a reader of Douglas Adams, R.I.P., whose immortal line will forever be: "Don't Panic!"
  • This guy has every right in the world to feel like a hero. Having a newborn to be expected he didn’t even consider dying it sounded like. Incredible composure.
