Iain Kerr and his team at Ocean Alliance are flying drones over whales to capture the slimy particulate matter (aka whale snot) from a whale's blowhole.

Watch the full video on our channel to learn more about this non-invasive approach to studying these massive marine mammals.

The footage of the snotbot above the whale is of a bleu whale, right? 🐳

You start off with the Sperm whale then go to the Blue whale.😮
  • @earcher
I loved the blue whale cameo 😂
  • @mikerubino6966
The giraffe on the Serengeti doesn't disappear beneath the sand and then reappear 5 miles later as a blue whale
  • @sudokode
I'm glad they went with SnotBot and not SpermTracker

No disrespect intended, just constructive criticism from a person who is hard of hearing: could whoever is adding the captions please put them somewhere they won't have description text overlapping them in shorts?

"Hi! I'm a Roomba! What are you?" Snotbot. Trust me, it's way cooler than it sounds.

Title: Have you heard of snot bots? Video: Only shows it from a distance for a few seconds and doesn’t explain what it is
  • We need to see more vids of whales from underwater. Usually we only see a part above water.

One of those whales is like Bruh they have CIA birds collecting our snot

The species that fascinates me for life is the incredibly complicated world of primal cats. They are beautiful, vicious, caring and brutal. I love them.

Fun fact, whales shed their skin all at once, like snakes. They turn pale as the old skin separates, and although it can come off in one big piece, they usually go to shallower waters to scratch it off. But if they happen to find something in the middle of the ocean, like, say, a 19th century whaling ship, a pale sperm whale may harass the ship, trying to get its scritch on. Which a surly old captain with a name like Ahab would most likely not appreciate (see where I'm going with this?)

The Sperm and Humpback whales arguably have the two most compelling morphologic forms in all of Nature. I totally love watching the corporal ease with which they seemingly enjoy just being present and untroubled in that blue paradisiacal home. Everything happens with a streamlined, gestural grace, and an almost choreographic language in groups.

I love the rainbow that formed when the whale spouted water! 🌈
  • Snot bot was sampling a blue whale. Perhaps you should study sperms whales more closely
  • The Sperm Whale has always been my most favorite because of its differences from others and its beautiful eye. It amazes me that these Whales are able to make sounds that actually hurt living things around it to their defense! Maybe that is why they’re so respected!♥️♥️♥️🙏🏼🌈🥰
