In this video, we delve into the Astra Militarum, one of the most varied and vast armies within the Warhammer 40K universe, focusing on the distinctive Tanith First and Only Guard Regiment, also known as Gaunt's Ghosts. Originating from the feudal, heavily forested world of Tanith, the regiment was forged in a time of upheaval, when its legendary wood-warriors dismantled the monarchy, leading to a society of democratically elected city-states. The unique environment of Tanith, with its mobile forests of Nalwoods, endowed its inhabitants with an exceptional sense of direction and a suite of survival skills, defining their future as unparalleled scouts and marksmen within the Astra Militarum.


Led by the rare figure of a Colonel-Commissar, Ibram Gaunt, the Tanith First and Only were formed under dire circumstances, narrowly escaping annihilation by a Chaos war fleet through Gaunt's decisive action. The remnants, reformed into a single regiment, lost much but gained a reputation for their ghost-like prowess on the battlefield—hence their nickname.
