No.103 Today I'm fixing a broken toilet or closet flange. I noticed my toilet was wobbling. One of the bolts that hold down the toilet was loose and spinning. I had a feeling the Toilet or Closet Flange had broken.

Awesome video. You've educated me today my friend. I want to replace our leaky toilet with a new dual flush but I was concerned about the condition of the flange and possibly needing to change it out since its 25 years old. Your video taught me how to repair the flange rather than replace without all that extra work removing the old one. Your video is well done and I must say you're a natural with the camera. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.

Excellent video! One of the most articulately explaned videos i've seen!

The wax goes under. We just did this today. The native rubber gasket makes a seal with the toilet outlet as you bolt down the toilet against this flange. If you put wax there is gets all squeezed out. Good thing you put the caulking under the flange otherwise you get to do it all over.

Excellent video. Easy to follow. 4 additional screws sounds like overkill.

Installed a new toilet with this following Danco directions (wax, then Hydroseat). Placed toilet on it, screwed down. I poured several buckets of water to check for leaks and some water flowed from back of base. Did I not tighten bolts enough (what is too tight before it cracks?} Would adding a second wax seal on top (in addition to one between old flange and hydroseat) help this or cause any issue?

Exactly what I was looking for!!! My flange is broken and was recommended to buy a hydro seat. And needed how to use it.

If the metal on that repair kit is susceptible to rust, it's not ideal, but I thought you did a great job. The end result looks solid, strong, and stout. Nicely done.

Thank you for you video. Question: 1) What size (length) of 12mm extra screws that you used? 2) Can I use rubber ring, not wax?
  • @m.d.1993
What are the second set of screws you used to tighten the new flange into the old one?
  • @lauradalton6177
Danco's video states that the metal is powder coated, with stainless steel bolts. So it should be somewhat rust resistant (2:20 in your video). You did it different than their instructions (wax first, than flange) but I believe your method will still seal properly.

Looks like someone did not read instructions. That also includes me. WAX goes under the flange
  • @johnellis3122
The wax ring was suppose to go under the flange fixer.

Shoot I plumb for a living and I still loved your video.

Worked fine for me. When tiling around it, I put tape over the screws to prevent mortar from covering them. Isn't the wax ring supposed to go in between the old and new flange, not on top of the new flange? Well I think that' what the manufacture says.
