Denver, Colorado Station 3 has Unprecedented History, Cultural Significance, Dedicated Personnel, and even Ghost Stories - all within 400 square feet. It is DFD's only single-engine station with 4 person crews that run 24/7 and answer nearly 4.5k calls a year. The building is a historic landmark and remains the oldest active house in the department. DFD Station 3 is the first and only fire station in Denver to be staffed by all African American members until it was desegregated in 1957. The Station is located in the Five Points neighborhood and thus became known as "The Pride of the Points" as well as "in the Eye of the Storm" due to its unwavering commitment to providing a safe and secure place in the community. Today you see multiple new construction projects and revitalizations going on all around it. Due to its location, rich history, and diversity this station is considered a favorite among the firefighters. Members claim the station is haunted tracing back to an entire crew that perished in a hotel fire in 1895. HND might just agree.

A big thank you to Chris for showing us around and the rest of the crew for contributing your thoughts and expertise as we toured your fantastic station.

If you are ever in the Denver area you MUST stop by and see this house for yourself. It was amazing!

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic power over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Great seeing these old stations still standing and not forgotten like most around the world have.

I love and miss these old styled fire stations! There was such nostalgia working out of old fire houses! They had a particular smell and ambience that just can't be replicated in modern built fire stations!

Love this station and what they bring to our community. There are lots of festivals and cultural celebrations in our community and they are always outside interacting with neighbors and showing kids around the house. Also, the station is so cool and truly an anchor in this area. This crew is the best! (From a neighbor who lives just down the block and has had to call them in the middle of the night)
  • My dad was a Denver firefighter. He died in ‘58. He wasn’t stationed at No. 3 though. Denver is also home to the Denver Firefighters Museum which is also great attraction to visit while visiting. Great video! 👍

I just love this fire house. It's got it all, history, style, home feel, and I hope it is still in service for another 100 years.

This really old Fire-Fighter worked that house in early 1970s, and it was a bad hood back then. City put up a tall fence around our parking area in back and we would lock it up at night and next morning there would be footprints across the top of some cars, the little stinkers still got in but usually minimal car damage. We ran 5 men in those days and used the same bunker gear continually. When it was a black manned firehouse the men would give haircuts to the neighborhood kids on Saturday on the front apron. The black Captain was Shorty (?) and he ran the station like military and was well liked, and in his day the shifts were 1 on 1 off. We had no air horns until about 1972 and no blue lights as those were saved for snowplows. The basement was department storage for helmets and I always questioned why everybody needed his own bed throughout the department when most of America just changes sheets when coming on shift. The Washington park station, being old had a small bedroom with 17 beds in it, and one would have to clear a small lane just to reach your bunk. Engines were called Pumpers back then and first arriving pumper would have to lay an incoming supply line (21/2) on any fire call, even false, wrong address, no fire, fire out, wrong alley or whatever, and boy did we reload a lot of hose daily, but the truck companies usually helped. When I think back, those were some of the best times of my life. I left in 1974 and finished out at Miami-Dade Fire for 43 years total. Ah the memories.

I have been in that Station many times. I did almost 32 years in the Denver Fire Department. The new doors were built in the DFD Repair Shop. By a Denver Fire Fighter.
  • that is just so cool seeing old peices of history like this no matter if it's a old fire haul a old engine unforms etc. It is just so neat and just a fantastic sight to see and also know that Denver still values and preservers it's older history and knowledges it as a historical place and its legacy i find that just a fantastic way to honor it.
  • @bv226
Spent the most rewarding years of my career there. Thant you for featuring it.
  • @iamReddington
The picture of the African American firehouse crew was something special. I really like the history of this station and the fact that they preserved it. History, good or bad, is interesting and something everyone should learn about.
  • @murphy4yt
Cool video. I’m retired from the DFD, so it brought back a lot of memories.
  • @chuckman231
Beautiful station! I have seen pictures online of the house. I am glad we got a full video tour! Thanks Mike!
  • @ericcothren7237
I was a proby at this firehouse 24 years ago, and Chris's Dad was my senior FF.
  • @SierraKilo76
It is wonderfull to see that historic building, so well kept in order, clean and functional, among those modern ones nearby. I hope that even if it gets replaced, the city of Denver finds a way to keep it there to maybe serve the community in a different way.
  • @firevike2420
Awesome station and history, THANK YOU! I love the nostalgia and honor to service those old cribs represent… Keep up the old “big city” tours, that was cool!
  • @one_hoop
It seems like this would be most interesting to other firefighters, but I used to live a block from there so I watched to the end for the history and to know the workings behind what would occasionally wake me up :) Thanks for the video.
  • Thanks for coming to Colorado! try while your still here, Boulder mountain fire and rescue station 1, the brush trucks are absolutely insane. Insane looking station too.
  • @rickprobst7555
