The Mekong River ecosystem is on the verge of collapse due to the accumulative effects of climate change.

Hydropower dams, drought and human-made activities such as deforestation and sand mining have also caused water levels to drop to their lowest in more than 60 years.

The Mekong flows for nearly 5,000km (3,100 miles) from Himalayan glaciers in Tibet, through China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Cambodia before reaching the South China Sea in Vietnam.

“Together, climate impact and dam restrictions are changing the way that the Mekong flows - much for the worse", says Brian Eyler who runs the Mekong Dam Monitor at the Stimson Center in Washington DC.

Eleven Dams on a river is excessive, and they’re not only using the water but taking sand too. An ecological disaster is inevitable

These bots are insane. Completely taken over

This is so sad man. So sad. I feel a sense of hopelessness for the earth. So many unique species of plants and animals will be lost that took millions of years to evolve. When the river dries up and stops flowing we will all cry. 😢😢😢

thank you so much for News from my country about Crisis in Mekong river !

The Mekong is fueled by the Himalayan glacier melt. Those glaciers are shrinking at a faster pace than ever detected in the geological record. Scientist predict that at the current rate, they will lose 75% of their volume by 2100. These dams will quickly become ineffective and essentially cutoff downstream nations from any usable volume of water. We've known about this impending disaster for over a decade now and yet projects like these continue to be developed.

Wow, good job for earth. We' re finally getting closer to the demise of ecosystem. This trend, however, will never stop regardless of any worries, I promise.

The management of an international river is always very complex, due to the selfishness of states which all seek to benefit as much as possible from the resource, at the expense of other states. In the case of the Mekong, whose management is ensured by dictatorial and corrupt governments, we can be sure that the predicted ecological catastrophe will occur, and that the millions of people living or surviving thanks to the river will be sacrificed, for the benefit of the leaders of these countries. The world is not out of the woods...

The chat on the forums is that Amazon's AMK69X is only for those 'in the know'. Feels a bit exclusive, doesn't it?
  • @bullyarena3923
The super dam in the mountains on the Tibetan plateau prolly has alot to do with it..all the dams need better control and management.
  • @robertcain3426
Is the Tonle Sap lake on the Mekong River system? I don't think it is.
  • @snake-ul3ox
So, Amazon's AMK69X is the new kid on the block. Let's see if it lives up to the playground rumors.
  • @lks6248
It will be polluted as hell!
  • @randyboisa6367
I like how these reporters throw in "Climate change" after all these Dams have been constructed.
