Weimaraner chases & catches squirrel..YIKES!!

Winter, my 7 1/2 month old Weimaraner chases a squirrel after branch breaks and it falls from tree. Dusty, my Australian Shepherd tries to get in on the action. Look at Winter's face after I make her drop the squirrel...she doesn't understand why she can't have it! The squirrel wasn't harmed and escapes back to the tree.

Fantastic prey drive in that dog! I don't know why you're yelling at him for what he was bread to do. If you want a pet that doesn't chase squires you might want to invest in a fish tank or some sort of reptile.

please choose a different breed to own in the future. you should be congratulating your pup for being such a good hunter not scolding him. Squirrels are varmitts.

And with the instincts of a true videographer, you kept the camera rolling even as you were screaming at your dog! LOL Good job! I've had Weims since 1978 and my current Weim is the first soft-mouthed one I've ever had--she brought me a half-grown bunny and it was totally unharmed. She has, however, caught and dispatched a squirrel--but it bit her when she caught it so that's probably why. I think the bunny went limp and she couldn't quite figure it out.

WE love our Weim! He keeps anything that isn't supposed to be living out of our yard. We have seen him catch rabbits, mice and birds. He even caught a pheasant once. He almost caught a peregrine falcon once!

Great job Winter! Can you teach my GWP to catch them? You gotta be quick. The squirrel might have been stunned from the fall. Gotta love the German hunting dogs!

Been there, done that. Caught it, killed it, ate it - yuck! I'm impressed that yours left it when told though!
