What I love about this cover is that he's not trying to show off his mad vocal skills. The simplicity is so much better than all of the dramatic versions, am I right?!

This was my mother's favorite song, we laid her to rest with this playing. Miss you momma.

I don’t care what anyone else says this is the best version of this song. Hands down the best.
  • “Love is not a victory march. It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah” Hallelujah meaning an affirmation of love in the midst of pain. Sometimes we simply have to express our love while going through some deep pain. That's what true love looks like. God bless you all and stay safe out there.

imagine playing this at your wedding and everyone thinks you just chose it because it’s a beautiful song but you really chose it because of shrek

Fun fact: Due to being included on the official soundtrack, this version by Rufus Wainwright is remembered as being the “Shrek” version of the song. But it was John Cale’s rendition that made it into the final cut of the movie.

Lyrics: I've heard there was a secret chord That David played and it pleased the Lord But you don't really care for music, do you? It goes like this: The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall, the major lift The baffled king composing Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Your faith was strong but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you She tied you to her kitchen chair She broke your throne she cut your hair And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Baby I've been here before I know this room and I've walked this floor, I used to live alone before I knew you I've seen your flag on the marble arch Love is not a victory march It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah There was a time you let me know What's really going on below And now you never show that to me do you And remember when I moved in you The holy dove was moving too And every breath we drew was Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Maybe there's a God above And all I've ever learned from love Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you And it's not a cry that you hear at night It's not somebody who's seen the light It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Halleluuuuuuuuuuujjjaaah

Shrek definitely had one of the greatest soundtracks in movie history. Just about every song was a masterpiece and they fit perfectly with the storyline. This is by far the best of them all because the lyrics invoke thoughts of sadness and sorrow for Shrek. At that moment, he realized he couldn’t live without Fiona and the lyrics perfectly matched how miserable he was. Outstanding work by everyone involved.
