How to grow & care for Epiphyllum - Night Blooming Cactus cuttings

Published 2023-01-27
Queen of the Night Cactus, or Epiphyllum Cactus can be the most satisfying plants to grow, with their stunning flowers and interesting branches, and it also is easily grown from small cuttings, making it a great free plant. In this video I give you a step-by-step guide to starting this plant as a cutting, re-potting it after it has rooted, as well as the tips and tricks for caring for this plant throughout the year, to help you grow a healthy, beautiful, blooming Epi Cactus.

This plant in particular was one of my first free plants, with this video over two years in the making! A neighbor of mine must have a beautiful Queen of the Night collection as they have left out not one, but two varieties of Epiphyllum cuttings for people to take. So please enjoy, and feel free to leave any questions or comments below!

Not all Epiphyllum are the night blooming variety. The true night blooming variety will open after sundown and die sometime around sunrise.

Thanks for another great video! I have several of these that I’ve gotten from friends or estate sales. It’s thrilling when they flower!
  • Helpful video. Might try propagating in Perlite to begin with. These plants are fascinating but good grief they can get so big so fast! Good for sharing at plant swaps! Love those little succulent garden tools.

Great video thank you so much!! If I am using perlite to get the cuttings to root, should I water the cuttings? Also, how long should I expect to wait to see roots on the Queen of the Night.
