New Zealand's a young country but it's produced more than a few inventions, and people, that have changed the world.

In this video, we'll take a look at 8 inventions in particular that have come out of New Zealand. Sure, some of these inventions might not really be that world-changing, but some definitely are/were. NUMBER 3 WILL MILDLY INTEREST YOU!

    I think the most important one missing from this collection is the Hamilton Jet.
  • The airtight round tin-lid invented by a Dunedin tinsmith to keep food and biscuits airtight and food safe, used internationally.
  • Instant coffee was invented in invercargill by strange coffee and also the Bobby pin was invented in invercargill

    My father Lionel Jones invented the drench gun on Paparatu Station. He sold the patent for $35 pounds and purchased a Rolex. I have the Rolex, my brother the patient documents and prototype.

    The rotary (spray) portable sheep dip was invented by Ian Ferguson of Invercargill.

    the world's fastest indian - kiwi bert munro didn't invent the indian scout motor cycle but he modified it to achieve the world record for under 1000 cc of 205.67 mph back in 1967
  • the Yale lock, the spare wheel and tyre for cars, first franking machine, self sealing lid ( as per paint tins ) first successful replacement of diseased heart valves with artifical valves first succesful pre-natal blood transfusion

    My dad helped invent the device that could be strapped on a bull to ‘mark’ the back each cow that he set, serviced, as part of selective breeding programs. Whatawhata research station. Love you and miss you, dad.

  • Hamilton Jet boat by Bill Hamilton. Gave the world jet boats used internationally.
  • I remember when Peter Snell was training between olympics by distance running in the bay of islands. My cousin and I were able to run with him, something pretty cool for a bunch of under 10 year olds.
  • Harold Gillies and his cousin Archibald McIndoe both ENT surgeons invented plastic surgery as we know it today. The Gillies forceps are used world wide in modern surgery.
