CRAZY Cliff Side Hike to the Highest Peak in Madeira | Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo | Portugal

Published 2022-06-09
Madeira, Portugal has some of the most amazing mountains and cliff sides we have ever seen. We hiked from the 2nd highest peak, Pico do Arieiro, to the highest peak, Pico Ruivo. With 1000m of vertical gain and sheer drops around every corner, this hike is not for those with weak knees. Just when we thought this hike couldn't get any better, we were met with an incredible surprise 500m from the peak. This hike is, and will remain, one of the top three hikes we will ever complete.

Did this hike 2 weeks ago with my 20-something kids and son's girlfriend. I'm 58, and did the hike one day after recovering from norovirus !! So now I'm feeling like a bit of a hero 😅 !!

  • Amber your hair is so cute fluffed up in the front! Also I’ve been here since you had a few hundred subscribers and have loved watching this channel grow. You guys are the most down to earth unpretentious travel channel out there.

You guys didn't seem to have taken into account a very important factor before that adventure: oxygen levels at that altitude. Nothing, except proper training, can prepare you for that and once you reach a certain height you have to slow down a bit or it will take a toll on you. Been there, done that: 1988, I was in my 20's, in the military service, extremely fit, thought I could handle anything and when I got back to the starting point I was almost like Nathan. This was on a Saturday morning and the next Monday I was still having difficulty walking or climbing stairs. : )
  • Did this yesterday and if was soooo many stairs I did not think I was going to make it, was very cold in the morning and hot by the time I was finished fun but tough for me
  • One of my favorite videos to date! So true that you stare at your feet the majority of many hikes 🤣

One of the best hikes in Europe! I did this hike with a sunny day (lucky me) . Went with Do It Madeira self guided mode. I would totally do this hike again!

Excellent video, Guys. It gives a great overview of this amazing hike. I was just thinking that poles might be helpful when you recommended them! Cheers.
