Lawrence Welk truly loved his musicians and found various ways to feature them. Trombonist is often featured in jazz solos, as he is in this piece. But here the rest of the trombone section joins in and each one is featured so you can appreciate their individual tones and styles. The overall theme of this particular Lawrence Welk show was ecology.

Fantastic tone by all 4 of those guys. Bob Havens is definitely one of my trombone heroes. I really wanted to play just like him when i was a kid. I even started holding the slide between my fingers like him!!

I love that trombone slide vibrato. Definitely the most vibrato I've heard from any brass quartet, yet they match so well it works beautifully and just adds a whole other level of charm!

Wonderful! Lawrence Welk was my grandmother’s favorite TV show. I thought it was kind of corny back in the 70s when I was a teenager, but when she took me to a taping, I was astounded by the musicians, top notch, everyone of them.

I knew Barney 40 years ago. He told me that if you as a LW band member, attended church every Sunday, LW would buy you a new Oldsmobile every year! 😊

Thanks for all your great posts! BTW Kenny Trimble is Jim Trimble's (another great trombonist) father. Please keep it coming!

Great stuff - pity about the "applause" sign which obviously switches on with every player.....
