  • Ah the sound of childhood mornings and afternoons. I used to think it was so much relaxing when we got an automatic bus without the jerkiness of whoever didn’t drive the manual transmission busses that well.

What a great find. I drove an ‘83 version with the same Thomas/International configuration many years ago. Mine had air brakes and air door but otherwise, the same. The lighted switch on the left panel should be connected to a strobe light. The two switches next to the door control should be part of the warning light system. Also, that lever on the panel beside your left knee is part of the warning lights too. When you turned it, I could hear that familiar flasher motor and saw the red pilot light start blinking. Hopefully this unit will go to a restoration buff as the engine (9.0 liter) and the rest of the bus appears to be in real good shape.

I love old Thomases, the one thing about the old ones is that until about 2005ish, the body style stayed exactly the same, with only the Chassis changing. They used to use International, until International got their own bus company (IC) and now they use Freightliner. Sadly they retired this body style, and replaced it with the C2, which I kind of like better since there is more head room, but the old style is iconic.

I love the looks of internationals and I’d kill for one with a manual and I can’t get enough of those rims. So classic!

9:04 that's what I was waiting for!! The sound of my childhood lol The sound of the 9L accelerating is ingrained in me straight from kindergarten, especially with an automatic. (Our district had all autos). Little did I know I'd be all about V-8 engines and sounds later in life! This (and the BttF car sounds) might be a big part of it!

Glad to hear that this bus is up for sale. It's in perfectly good condition. The interior of the bus is a little worn out, but nothing a little TLC couldn't cure. The engine sounds good. Given that bit of info, I have no idea why this bus would be sent to the scrapyard. This bus still has some life left and I hope they find a good home for it.
  • Boy, I think that's the first automatic I've seen in that body style of a bus. Up here in Wisconsin, all of our old International Bus's we're all 4-speeds with overdrive.

This bought back some great memories. These where top of the line in their day.
  • Please Oh my God! Is there any good starts like that bus. This is such a satisfying start
  • I like the fact that you show respect to the vehicles you feature on your Youtube channel. Keep up the good work.

Man these buses take me back in the day. I rode a couple of 1987 International Carpenter buses during my elementary school days. My old bus driver let me sit in the driver's seat once.
  • Brings back memories hearing that engine purr. Its the popular 9.0 liter V-8 was a common diesel in the 80s s series buses and trucks. I use to own 2 buses from the 80s and was also a school bus mechanic back when it was fun.
  • @SouthSideRalph1
ol girl beautiful...you can tell she wanna stay in service!
  • @buddyzmama1
Man those older International diesels are friggin tanks!
  • Hey that's my bus I bought it and turned it into a mobile garage. I didn't even know it was on YouTube. It's been a damn good one.
  • @kodydakin996
Good ol 9L gutless sounded like it was gonna eat the world but didn’t have much to offer lol
  • These were the buses we drove back in the 90's. I truly miss them!
