Coyotes vs. Wolves - An Unequal Battle in Yellowstone National Park | Wildlife Documentary

Watch 'Yellowstone - The Breathtaking Beauty of America's First National Park' here:    • Yellowstone - The Breathtaking Beauty...

The coyote evolved in North America, where it competed with the wolf, and had learned to contend with his larger cousin. In the 1920s, however, all wolves were extirpated from the American West and from Yellowstone National Park by the Government. The coyote then became the top predator in Yellowstone.
But in 1995, wolves were reintroduced into the Park. The coyote had been the top predator in Yellowstone when the wolves were gone. But now that the wolf has returned, the coyote has become the underdog.
Nevertheless, the coyote is a survivor! It continues to thrive in Yellowstone. This is the story of how coyotes and wolves learned to co-exist again.

  • The coyote evolved in North America, where it competed with the wolf, and had learned to contend with his larger cousin. In the 1920s, wolves were eradicated from the American West and from Yellowstone National Park by the Government. The coyote became the top predator in Yellowstone. So what happened when the wolf was reintroduced in 1995? The coyote wasn’t top predator anymore. This documentary spent three years finding out how coyotes and wolves are again sharing terrain.

Thank You for this. I like coyotes, wolves and ravens. Didn't know coyote pairs bond for life. That's more than most modern humans can achieve.

It was great to witness the special relationship, not just between coyotes and wolves, but also between ravens and coyotes, and to see a coyote hunting with a badger, to name just a few highlights. Really enjoyed all of the documentary. I like that the music is calm and we can often hear just nature sounds.

Title is misleading. This is not about 'Coyotes vs. Wolves'. It is a documentary about coyotes. Very little about wolves.

I didn’t truly realize how Big an Eagle is until I saw it challenging the Coyote 😮

This documentary is superb, thanks, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
  • As indicated by DNA studies in Northern New England and the adjacent Canadian Provinces as the coyote migrated eastward it apparently crossbred with wolves in Canada and the upper Great Lakes region. As a result the Northeastern Coyotes are considerably larger on average than their Western forebears.

The coyote may not be the top dog in Yellowstone but he rules the roost in about every place other than there . Bears, mountain lions and wolves have held to a minimum in all of our states but we have hardly made a dent in coyote populations. They have been hunted relentlessly and still they multiply . They have been shot ,trapped ,poision and still they are with us and when the last human dies on earth there will be a Coyote there to pee on his body LOL
