The thing that has helped me the most is instead of using my phone as my morning alarm, I bought an actual alarm clock that’s on the other side of my room so I have to get up and out of bed to turn it off. It’s really helped me to start my morning instead of spending 15 minutes in bed scrolling and then rushing around because now I’m late for work.

I recently started leaving a small notebook on my nightstand, in the spot my phone used to be. Now, the first thing I do after waking up is writing a page of things I am grateful for. This has entirely replaced my habit of scrolling social media first thing in the morning, and starts my day off in a much better way!

*Summarisation of the video* • Swap out of your habit ~be aware of when you're scrolling ~switch into a new frame of thinking • Out of sight, out of mind ~put your phone away somewhere you cannot see it ~you can turn on silent mode (optional) ~focus on the situation • Set app limits ~you can use downtime settings in iPhone (optional) • Delete apps that aren't serving you ~apps that make you feel worse about yourself • Pinpoint the real issue ~why do you scroll? ~do some shadow work • Cultivate more mindfulness and practice being present ~snap yourself out of it ~meditating ~tuning into your 5 senses yk what.. go ahead and copy it
  • i love the way this was presented. I do my best on sundays to do a little social media detox, so so helpful

Firstly, I have to confess that I was so afraid to watch this video, knowing that I have social media addiction, I didn't want to face the reality and I was just living in a dreamy bubble. Finally, today I got the courage to dig deep into me. Sending you love too, Aileen.❤
  • Perfect timing, Aileen! I've been scrolling a lot recently, several hours, and my life seemed to collapse. I didn't deal with my tasks, I didn't want to do anything, like I've lost all my motivation, and I just wanted to lay on the bed to scroll and scroll... This video helped with my awareness and the tips are great! Thank you!
  • A lot of times, social media is used to find social connection. People scroll a lot, but maybe they're hoping to interact with someone or some people. If people build their relationships offline, they'd probably spend less time scrolling. Dinner, coffee, walks, just hanging out offline. If we make time for regular, fulfilling interactions with people who we want to be around, we'd probably find that social media isn't needed as much.

Thank you for this. I no longer use most social media. I have come to the conclusion that “if it doesn’t make me money, I don’t need to use it daily.” The only app I use daily now is YouTube. And with YT, I am learning new things daily. I have uninstalled my other apps. They are not necessary for me to stay alive. I am a happier person.
  • Fun Fact : your are wasting your time watching how to not waste your time
  • @veganlunchmom
Reading a good book feels better than scrolling. Or watching a good movie or show. And of course spending time with family playing board games.
  • @IS-LipsaBal
She always uploads things I need the most at that time
  • Another thing is swapping that time for a hobby that you can take with you. For example, reading a book, knitting, hand sewing, drawing, etc. Funnily enough, I wasn't allowed to have social media when I was a kid. Everyone i knew had Myspace and Facebook, but my mother always said no. Instead, I spent that time working on my hobbies instead. The more activities that you participate in, the less time you have to be on social media. I have since fallen off that wagon and I'm trying to get back on. This video was the perfect boost! Thank you 😊
  • @sabistudiys
Found myself doom scrolling later and remembered what you said, and remembered specifically “what am I avoiding, I can do hard things” literally stopped in my tracks and went back to studying! Thank you!❤
  • @xnottieneet
I got this video by scrolling 😅😂🤣😂
  • I deleted Twitter, TikTok and Snapchat because it wasn’t something I needed. Although I have Instagram. I have set a limit for 1 hour and even if I go past that I’m intentional to use it less. A part of me wants to not have Instagram but it is also useful for staying informed of different events in college. I have noticed I also spend a lot of time on YouTube because I love watching my favorite YouTubers and sometimes limiting my YouTube time is the most challenging

My personal tips: 1) Turn on the digital wellbeing widget on your phone that puts your daily screen time on your home screen. 2) Start watching more YouTube videos. It makes you used to consuming something a bit longer. 3) Don't take your phone in the bathroom, whether for a shower or for anything else. 4) Don't use your phone while you eat. 5) Start doing "no-screen" time blocks in the day, grab a drink and stare out the window without using your phone. 6) Get into a relatively easy, creative, hands on hobby that takes up your time besides scrolling. E.g. crocheting, coding, origami, reading. 7) No phone during hangouts with friends or dates! Even if your friend is on their phone, let them be and look around. Don't feel awkward, let them finish their thing and get back to you. Don't use your phone, just wait a bit. 8)

It's my first time hearing that we might be so into social media because we are running from our responsibilities. It's slap for me as it is all true.

Tips to break social media addiction 1. swap out your habit 2. Out of sight, out of mind 3. Set app limit 4. Delete apps that aren't serving you 5. Pinpoint the real issue 6. Cultivate more mindfulness and practice being present
  • I have time limits on some social media apps but would always click “ignore” when the limit popped up. Now, my partner set the time limit code so it’s removed the option to ignore for me. It’s really helped me be more mindful of my scrolling 👍🏻 great video!
