Everyone needs a place to live, but some aren't happy with the great outdoors, they look for some home comforts - they use extraordinary specialist building skills to construct the perfect home. Homes have many uses. They can prove a bolthole to escape predators, a safe nursery in which to raise young, a food store and a shelter from bad weather.
Animals of many shapes and sizes build their own homes. Perhaps the biggest construction projects are those undertaken by ants. Hundreds of thousands work together to construct their home.
Small mammals are expert diggers. Meerkats and hamsters both excavate elaborate tunnels where they can stay out of harm's way and raise their young, though the hamster likes to work alone while the meerkats prefer to have the company of an entire clan.
When it comes to making a nursery, it’s birds who steal the show. In just a few days they can construct a basket of twigs - a nest that can support their growing family and keep them out of harm's way.
There is one other good builder in the animal kingdom - us. Did we learn our skills from the animal home builders?

What I find the most incredible is how they manage to get these shots !!
  • How the photographer managed to have a good shot of animals' homes is an extraordinary skill. It puzzles me that a clear animal's abodes can be beautifully captured by a camera without disturbing the occupants.

0:44 - When a animal lays down and lets out a big breath of air, a sigh I think. I love that sound. It's so human to me.
  • @the.reel.mccoy.
The bird that purposely gets sprayed by the ant's poison is absolutely incredible.
  • Many thanks to the amazing camera-men for their efforts to show us the wonderful animal world..
  • what a priviledge to see the life styles of animals in their habitat. Thank you.
  • 'Animal building skills' - one of the best documentary video ever documented. It was so professional with multiple techniques as if the camera is 'part of the nature' resembling the ambience resulting those particular animals did not realised that they were in the midst of filming and continuously behaved naturally. Those animals with 'building skills' were virtually attract our attention. They were never 'attended the same school' to study the specific knowledge; constuct the house to suit them the best respectively. Personally I have the answer to convince myself concerning their wonderful knowledges, other than beings Bestowed by The Almighty, The Exalted, The Supreme Being, The Most Knowledgeable, The Most Powerful and The Most Merciful. He (The Oneness) Knows the need of each of His Creations (including mankind), being He Himself as The Sole Creator!.

31:32 Notice the music, the call and response between the two instruments when either bird is moving the stick, a little detail that adds a lot of character to that whole scene.
  • Thank you for the great painstaking job and patience put in setting up tiny cameras without disturbing the daily routine of those lovely creatures.Your time of WAITING to get those shots is greatly appreciated. Great job.

When I think the internet is a bad thing, I’m reminded that free joy like this is available on it and it’s the most wonderful thing ever.

It wasn't until they made that first popular documentary on meerkat families that I learned just how incredible they are. They are so intelligent and the way they run the family with a hyrachy is incredibly affective. So interesting to watch and learn about with David Attenborough

21:33 The bit with the foxes was so magical. The music went perfectly with the forest that hides a mysterious vixen and her cubs. Just think about all of the life going on at all times all over the world... here we're given a glimpse into a secret burrow with one solitary mother and her infants that will remain inside for weeks. I dunno that's really magical
