  • I saw a quote that really stuck with me ā€œAll this clutter used to be money, and all that money used to be timeā€

I sold stuff on ebay , and used the money to become debt free. I also donated unused items. I'm retired at 58. I have Less but I feel I have more. šŸ˜ƒ

A wise person once told me, ā€œEverything you own, owns a part of you.ā€ Choose wisely.

My absolutely favorite quote from these guys is "Love people, use things: Because the opposite never works."
  • I live in a 520 square ft. Minimalist home that was build in 1950 with a big yard. I renewed the house when I moved in. No one was willing to move into an old small house. Im happy to have a low low mortgage and be able to pay off my mortgage in a few years and my children enjoy the big yard to play out. Soo blessed.

I have been debt free for 30 years. I am driving a 2002 Nissan Frontier which I plan on driving for another 100K. I am the millionaire next door.

A lot of your possessions you never touch until it's time to move them to another house where you will warehouse them until you move again.

I am in my mid 60s ... I have yet to see a Uhaul attached to a Hearse
  • Love this! We sold our car to save money and biked everywhere for a year! If I couldnā€™t fit groceries on my bike, we didnā€™t need it. Talk about the best shape Iā€™ve ever been in my life!

Between minimalism and Dave my husband and I are now completely debt free. I started a minimalist journey several years ago, and then found Dave. They work together so well!!!!

I cancelled my Amazon subscription, I donā€™t need to keep being tempted to buy loads of stuff.
  • Losing his mom at such a young age, I think made him realize time is fleeting. I also lost my mom under 40 years old, Iā€™m 47 now. Time is fleeting. Donā€™t let stuff own you.

From the time my husband left me and my kids, and we had to move to a one bedroom apartment and had to live on $100 to be able to pay our rent and bills, we became extreme minimalists. after 16 years I still live in an one bedroom apartment and don't see the need to move to a larger house, because I live minimalist, my home looks so tidy and I have place for everything. Our only shopping trips are for food ( once every two week). Once a year or less for clothing and shoes and that is when we really need to replace our shoes or cloths. My kids are adults and they also don't like spending and always save every single penny they have. I love my minimalist living, more than the time we lived in a big house with lots of stuff! šŸ¤®

One of the most liberating realizations in life is coming to understand that chasing happiness through consumption and materialism is analogous to chasing a mirage on the horizon that never arrives.
  • I work at a thrift store. I swear to you, the ladies' shoes with the price tags still attached is staggering. Anything you want, within reason, passes through those doors. Ppl buy the pampered chef, Nike, etc and dump it at the thrift store when they move or put mamaw in the nursing home. I have beautiful down comforters I bought for $15. A $ 200 down lands end coat for $12. Be patient. If you really need it, it will show up in 2-3-4 visits. Now, when you see something yummy, ask yourself, do I already have a nicer one at home? If not, or the one at home is used & abused, by all means, switch it out. Get rid of the useless and unused items. Enjoy what you actually are using. Wear it!

I've been listening to both The Minimalist podcast and Dave Ramsey for a few years now and seeing them come together like this,is just astonishing. I am so happy to see this collab!! :D
  • @djpuplex
The most important thing money can buy is something that can't be made is...time.
  • Matt D'Avella is the man. His work has led me to change so many things about my life for the better.
  • for everything I buy at thrift store since I don't buy anything new, I take a bag of stuff back to a thrift store.

Iā€™ve been getting rid of Stuff for a year steady every wkd thru the pandemic and still have more to go. I donā€™t need stuff. You have to manage all that stuff! I donā€™t sell it - I give away or donate. And I have no debt.
