We don't joke a lot to hide our history, we're proud of it and we don't buy IKEA furniture if we want a quality product.
  • For the Swedes that made comments about British colonialism, remember What the Vikings did rapped and pillaged and during the Second World War they were neutral and turned a blind eye and did absolutely nothing to stop the Nazis and the murdering of 6 million Jews murdered in the concentration camps . You can thank the Uk and it’s commonwealth colonies for the massive sacrifices that the troops made in the fight against the Hitler and the Nazis, if it wasn’t for there actions then Sweden would be speaking German today , so you can thank use anytime
  • "What they did in the past with colonialism"? Good grief. smh I'm British and I've never colonised anything. Some people, those who are particularly low-resolution thinkers, seem to be unable to differentiate between the past and the present, and unable to grasp that cultural and/or ethic essentialism makes a seriously faulty connection between the individual, the group to which they belong, and how that relates (if at all) to history. That kind of groupthink is really dangerous.

I get the impression Swedes don't know very much at all about the UK.
  • @graybeard3291
In that case are the Swedish people nice to make up for what they did when they where vikings

As a British person, I dont go to an irish pub. I dont eat curry and I certainly don't buy Ikea furniture. I like my furniture to be quality
  • Swedes have to be kind of funny to make people forget what they did in the northern empire under Charles Xll.

A Swedish person talking about British colonialism when they did the exact same thing to the UK. The irony and lack of awareness is unbelievable.

For the Swedish citizen complaining about colonialism and the current populations supposed guilt, i would counter with your Vikings, should you be ashamed still for what they did?

Without wishing to sound overly defensive I always get frustrated when people talk about 'they' and colonialism in Britain. I consider myself English, but my paternal Grandparents were Irish and my maternal Grandparents were from the Highlands of Scotland, both places which suffered greatly at the hands of the English upper class. Up until recently many working class English people were in workhouses, and parts of the country still suffer from extreme amounts of poverty. It was in the main the English gentry, aristocracy and upper classes that benefited from 'the empire' and despite still being very wealthy and owning huge swathes of the land in Britain/England - these people are a tiny % of the population and certainly don't represent your average Brit.
  • We are British and proud, we’re used to being hated by everyone!
  • Got to ‘love’ the passive aggressive woman who thinks Brits have a sense of humour because of the British Empire. I wonder how Swedes cope with having been neutral in the fight against Hitler?
  • So what the Vikings did for 500 years wasn't colonialism?
  • @simonlewis720
We had nothing to do with colonialism, that was a different generation
  • The whole of Europe has a terrible colonial past not just Britain. For example the atrocities the Germans committed against the Herero people in Namibia is beyond anything the British ever did.
  • The person who mentioned colonialism and that we’re funny to make people forget, well no we don’t try to make people forget, Sweden is very nice, are you nice to get people to forget your history? Every country has a bloody history, we have no control over that, it felt like an unnecessary swipe. Also we are not eternal enemies of Germany. Only during the world wars but before and after we are friends.
  • For the person at the star that complains about colonialism. The British Empire did more good than harm. We civilised the world. You can thank us anytime you want.

Ref. the young lady with a memory longer than her life, who can forget what the Vikings did? 😉😂
