Hey guys in this video I talk about the difference between trends I see online and trends that I see in person. They're completely different and in reality, nobody in person cares about clothes as much as us (people who watch fashion videos online lol)

This video was inspired by Laini Ozark's video on the same topic:    • real life vs. online trends (they're ...

Also, I got a new intro yayy!! let me know what you think, if you like the intro or if you prefer i get right to it?

That is why, I don’t understand how some people might conclude that the trend cycle is moving too fast, when people in real life are still wearing the same things they wore a few years ago. Only people from the internet have moved on with these trends.

Sometimes I worry about not being fashionable enough but then I realize that 90% of the people I see in real life are just wearing jeans/leggings and a shirt or sweater. If you spend too much online it can make you feel like everyone is super trendy and cool when most people are just dressing simply and comfortably. I still follow online trends but I’ve started to just wear whatever I want rather than worry about if my outfit is Pinterest/instagram worthy.

this is so true, I tend to follow the online trends (not chronically, but I usually like what I see the most of) but then I go out and looking like a "weirdo" because nobody is wearing these trends irl, or just very few people😅 it's a strange time we are living.

as someone who lives in the nyc metro area, i definitely notice the "online" trends are never out in person in my town or near it, but when i'm in certain parts of the city, it's everywhere!

i love that you mentioned being able to tell someone is online when you see these trends in real life. i don’t think some people realize how obviously curated and influenced their style is rather than it being natural and genuine to them. it’s like seeing someone wear a 2023 titkoker cosplay.

i go to a school that's known for being "artistic" and everyone having very unique style, which is true when compared to the world outside our school, but looking at the people in school... everyone there prides themselves on being individual while also lookin like every other person there. like, sure, if you go to your local grocery store at home you do stick out from the crowd, but that's only because you, like every other student here, chose to wear the online trend lol

There are definitely regional trends and they may not reflect what is popular online or in a different part of the country. I love looking for things that are popular in different areas when I travel. And I agree with your utility belt bag prediction. Cute and practical!
  • In person youre more likely to see store bought stuff from like malls or local shops. While online its more likely youll see stuff from an internet shop

It’s so weird to see new trends pop up so often- like clean girl & the new mob wife aesthetic trend- just a few years ago aesthetics appeared and stuck around for a while. Indie & soft girl aesthetics were so major even though they’ve faded, people still draw from them. Me personally I tend to still style myself from what was trendy in 2017/2019 from what I liked, and occasionally take inspiration from newer trends but I never throw out my entire closet to start a new aesthetic. The trend cycle now, online anyways, is so fast people aren’t even developing their own styles they’re just picking up trends and throwing them away when they’re “out of style”.

Flared/bootcut jeans have taken the hell off irl here; they've been in every fast fashion retailer for over a year already. I don't live in a particularly fashionable city, but i work in a charity thrift shop near my university, so i see a lot of these online trends in the people coming in. Cropped fur jackets, baggy darkwash jeans, military style caps and cargo bags, you name it!
  • i see online trends in big cities but not in the rural areas in my country. when i travelled to japan, province or not, everybody was trendy

Influencers tend to move through clothes quicker as they get gifted items and also buy items to make content. The rest of us are out here rewearing what we purchased years ago.

I live in Oregon and every day I pick up my daughter at the highschool, the kids are wearing pajama pants or sweatpants, Ugg slippers and Birkenstocks or Crocs with Nike socks. I'm not sure why they always wear Nike socks in particular but that's the staple teenage outfit.

this is what i think a lot of teen movies and shows get wrong with the costumes, they also try and dress them in online trendy fashion but in reality thats just not what teens actually would be wearing especially in smaller towns, as someone who was in high school only a few years ago I remember the popular and rich kids especially did not dress with the online trends
  • Online wide leg jeans are trending, irl skinny jeans are still popular. At least where I live, anyways🤷🏽‍♀️

so so important! but also I feel like the real life trends are simply what the internet perceives as outdated, more like the 2016-2019 kind of style - which is interesting as trends now move too fast to even be adapted gradually into real life, so will the majority of the population simply keep dressing like 2016 forever or will the current trends turn into real life ones in a few years all at once?

i feel like this just comes down to trends filtering into the mainstream. social media has just become a place where newer, more 'fashion forward' ideas brew within a smaller niche, until it becomes more popular among the mainstream users and gets picked up by mainstream fashion brands, until it filters into the general population. this is probably why the masses tend to wear things that you mind think were trendy 3 years ago! rlly interesting video - you gained a subscriber x

When trends are new, they are only available in high price brands. It's when there starts to cheaper dupes available, I can finally participate. By then, the trendy girls have already moved into the next thing.

definitely have noticed a lot of claw clips in person! other trends in my area are white socks over leggings, those crescent bags, and baggy jeans
