This is a short Warhammer40k fan film i made on my spare time.
It started as a small learning experience and ended up being a short fan film.

I found inspiration from all kinds of places such as the amazing Astartes, Starcraft 2, The lord inquisitor, Iron man and many others.

This is my homage to those inspirations.

Its made in Blender and cut together with After effects
Music is composed in Logic Pro X

Thanks for the support and feedback everyone. A little clarification for those who wonder. This is in part an intentional homage to both Starcraft, Astartes and the other inspirational sources i had when making this. They deserve every bit of credit for their respective amazing quality, and the inspiration they gave helped me move this from a small side project into a more substantial short film. For those who want to take the time and watch it again, i uploaded a variant with a heavier Bolter sound to my Artstation page based on popular demand!

Watching this made me think "God i wanna be in this world" then I remembered its 40k
  • Games Workshop honestly doesn't deserve the fact that they have some of the highest quality fans out there.
  • Coming back from GW armoring Space Marine. I still prefer your a bit more. They both work in the their own context. Ultramarine is by the book very ritualistic, while the Raptor is pragmatic and efficient. The Ultramarine screams low Gothic Fantasy, while Raptors is dark sci-fi. and they both have their place in the grimdark 40K universe

You know this still perfectly fits with how GW's rendition of the "donning the armor" goes Of course the more practical and pragmatic Raptors would say "screw most of this ceremony bs where they put on my armor manually, have a machine do it so it's quicker"

Space marines: so cool that you just watched one get dressed for 3 minutes.

I like the idea of the different chapters having wildly different ideas about armoring. For the Ultramarines, there's all this pomp and tradition, while the Raptors prefer to do it quickly, cleanly, and efficiently. Incredible video.
  • Anyone else notice that at the end when he racks the bolter, a round actually cycles into the chamber

It's maddening how many good animators the 40k community has, but instead of hiring those people and making something that could be the greatest sci-fi movie ever, Games Workshop just goes ''Hahaha mobile game money machine goes WAAAAAGH''
  • I don’t understand why they need all those magnets and locks for the armor; a drop of plastic glue should do the trick
  • Considering that Raptor is one of the most rational chapters in w40k, I think this armoring style is also suitable for canon. No incidental ritual, no abundance of manpower, just automated sequences for efficiency.

I love how the Primaris Bolter isn't so cartoonishly large to the point of covering the Marine's entire torso. The proportions are so much more aesthetically pleasing

Imagine the horror when the zerg realize it's not Tychus.

Meanwhile in the official armouring of the space marine: "I am iron. I am Wrath. I am..... Doom." Battle brothers: "You're fucking late, that's what you are."
  • @brickwall9781
Love how this can be juxtaposed to the more recent Ultramarines suiting-up animation. Their "poster-child" status in the Imperium and their high profile & resources reflect in that heavily ritualized, embellished sequence, whereas the Raptors here are more no-nonsense, straight-to-the-point, suit up and kick ass.
  • "Make no mistake. War is coming. In all it's glory, and all it's horrors."
  • They say a Marine never really knows himself......until his bolter is taken away...
  • @Fluffykeith
You know...it IS possible to like BOTH this animation AND the GW one, and appreciate them both for their differences as well as similarities. Doesn't have to be either/or....just saying....
